Club hosts Blood Drive The Ramsey Junior Woman’s Club will host the Ramsey Community Blood Drive in cooperation with Community Blood Services on Sunday, July 1 from 9 a.m. to noon. The drive will be held at the clubhouse located at 41 South Island Avenue. To schedule an appointment, call Community Blood Services at (201) 251-3703. All types of blood are needed especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. Farmers Market open The Ramsey Farmers Market offers organic and traditional produce, artisanal breads and cheeses, gluten-free baked products, gourmet olive oils and balsamic vinegars, eggs from free-range chickens, local wines, fresh fish from the Hampton Bays, prepared organic foods, homemade pastas, gourmet teas, coffees, local honey, fresh flowers, handmade artisanal ice pops, nuts, dried fruits, pickles, olives, homemade chili, organic toffee, and more. Market shoppers have the opportunity to purchase fresh and locally grown products as they get to know various farmers and vendors. The Ramsey Farmers Market will continue outdoors each Sunday through Nov. 18, rain or shine. This season, the market will host six Artisans’ Corners, hosting local artists and craft makers on the third Sunday of each month. Upcoming entertainment is as follows: July 1, Carolyn Messina; July 8, Red Apple Rest; July 15, Lenape Live; July 22, Matt Roy; and July 29, Dario Scholis and Compas. The market will continue its commitment to supporting local farming and a sustainable community focusing on recycling, ways to reduce everyone’s carbon footprint, and community wellness. The Pay it Forward program will continue to collect donations of non-perishable foods from market patrons and fresh produce from farmers, all of which are delivered to the Center for Food Action in Mahwah. Support group forming A new Alzheimer’s Caregivers’ Support Group will meet on Thursday, June 28 at the Ramsey Public Library, 30 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Anyone with a family member who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia disorder is invited to share his or her concerns in this supportive, caring, and confidential environment. The group is offered through the trained facilitators at Distinctive Care Geriatric Care Management in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association of New Jersey. Sophia Heftler, nurse and founder of Distinctive Care Geriatric Care Management, will facilitate the meeting. Future meetings are planned for July 26, Aug. 23, Sept.

Girls Scouts collect for RBARI Ramsey Girl Scout Troop 935 is collecting donations for the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. The girls, who are working toward their Silver Award, request donations of canned tuna fish in oil, dog and cat toys, Whiskas cat milk, meat-flavored baby food, soft liver treats, Pupperoni treats, canned pumpkin, nylon slip collars, six-foot nylon leashes, bleach, dishwashing liquid, disinfecting wipes, gallon-size Ziploc bags, Febreeze, and rolls of paper towels. Collection boxes are located at the Ramsey Municipal Building at 33 North Central Avenue and at the Ramsey Free Public Library at 30 Wyckoff Avenue. Donations will be accepted through July 6. Teens available for employment YES (Youth Employment Services) has a roster of available Ramsey High School teens who babysit; pet sit; do yard work, computer or office work; and a host of other jobs. The cost is $65 per person. Checks should be made payable to the Ramsey Seniors. The trip will include a tour of the mansion and its terraced gardens, and a look at the underground art galleries. Afterward, travelers will have a buffet lunch at Sunset Cove in Tarrytown, which overlooks the Hudson River. A visit to Union Church is also included. The bus will leave from Finch Park at 8:45 a.m. and will return around 4 p.m. Bingo is suspended for the month of July. Games will resume on Aug. 6. Register for summer programs Registration is open for summer camp at the Ramsey Adult School’s Youth & Children’s Programs. Two camp experiences are available for Ramsey district students and out-of-district students. Summer Sensations, a morning enrichment program designed for children who will be entering kindergarten through grade five, offers workshops designed to stimulate creative thinking while integrating reading, math, science, computer, music, art, and other skills. Children will build skills and explore their special interests in workshops of their choice, designed and presented by teaching professionals. This camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., five days a week. Three one-week sessions of Summer Sensations will be offered July 9 through 27. The program will be held at Tisdale School, 200 Island Avenue in Ramsey. Summer Vibrations is a three-week, multi-faceted, performance-based music camp for children who will be entering grades five through nine. The camp includes instrument lessons, electives, ensembles, and master forums. Rock Band will again be held for students in grades six through nine. This class is designed to bring together serious musicians who have always wanted to start a band or polish up an existing band into a performance-ready unit with a solid direction.

Fire department hosts Annual Golf Outing The Ramsey Fire Department will sponsor its second annual RFD Golf Invitational on July 21 at Loch Mor Golf Club in Fallsburg, New York. The cost is $125 per golfer and will include a full day of golf, meals and beverages, and transportation to and from Ramsey. All proceeds will benefit the Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department. Library seeks teen volunteers Ramsey teens who will be entering grades six and up are encouraged to apply for summer volunteer opportunities at the Ramsey Public Library.
