VBS, summer service announced Holy Cross Lutheran Church, located at 125 Glasgow Terrace in Mahwah, has scheduled its Vacation Bible School for July 9 through 13. The program is open to all children from age four through grade four. This year’s theme is “Son Treasure Island.” The week-long event will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and includes a light dinner. Chamber holds networking event The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold a networking session on Wednesday, July 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is being hosted by the new Shake & Sizzle Restaurant at the Gateway Shopping Center, 3 Franklin Turnpike in Mahwah. Discounts for the restaurant are available on the Chamber’s website, www.mahwah.com, and visit the “Biz-to-Biz” discount section. The fee to attend the networking session is $15 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members. Payment in advance is required for all MRCC events, and online registration will close at 3 p.m. the day before the event. Blood donors sought On June 27, the Courtyard Marriott in Mahwah will sponsor the Mahwah Community Blood Drive in cooperation with Community Blood Services. The drive, which is being held in honor of Mike O’Shea, will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Blood donors will help to ensure that the transfusion
needs of area patients are met. The Courtyard Marriott is located at 140 Route 17 South in Mahwah. To schedule an appointment, call Community Blood Services at (201) 2513703. All types of blood are needed, especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation; men over 40 also receive PSA testing. Outdoor Movie Night planned The Mahwah Recreation Committee will hold its Outdoor Movie Night on Tuesday, July 24. (Rain date: July 26.) This program is free for all Mahwah residents. Participants are invited to gather at Commodore Perry Field. The feature presentation, which has yet to be announced, will begin as soon as darkness falls (around 8:30 p.m.), and will be shown on a 25-foot screen. The refreshment stand will be open for business. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or chairs and enjoy a night of family fun under the stars. Board of health to meet The Mahwah Board of Health will meet on Tuesday, July 10 in the Mahwah Municipal Building at 475 Corporate Drive. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Plot holders’ meeting announced The annual Mahwah Cemetery Plot Holders’ meeting is set for Monday, July 9 at 7 p.m. The group will meet at the Ramapo Reformed Church at 100 Island Road. For more information, call (201) 529-3075. Summer Music Festival finale The final concert of the Mahwah Public Library 14th Summer Music Festival will be held on June 26. The Allegro Singers and pianist Inna Leytush will present scenes from operas that were performed at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1912. The free concert begins at 7 p.m. Seating is
on a “first come” basis. Doors are closed when the concerts begin. Latecomers will be seated during a break. The Mahwah Library is located at 100 Ridge Road. Paddle Day planned The Mahwah Recreation Committee will host a “Paddle Day” on Tuesday, July 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Lake Henry in Continental Soldiers Park. (Rain date: July 17.) Canoes, kayaks, and life jackets will be provided by Ramsey Outdoor Store. Mahwah residents of all ages are invited to participate. Proof of residency is required. Annual Senior Picnic announced The Mahwah Recreation Committee will host its annual Seniors Picnic at noon on Thursday, July 12. This event, which is open to Mahwah residents only, will be held at Continental Soldiers Park and will feature an old fashioned barbecue. For details, call (201) 529-5757, extension 254. Summer service announced This summer, the Ramapo Reformed Church will offer a contemporary Wednesday night worship service at 7 p.m. This informal service will be held on June 27 and July 11, 18, and 25. Child care will be provided.
