The event, which is for Mahwah seniors only, will be held at Continental Soldiers Park and will feature an old fashioned barbecue. Call the recreation department at (201) 529-5757, extension 254. Register for swim and diving teams, lessons The Mahwah Municipal Pool will offer group swim lessons in two sessions this summer. Session one will be held in July and session two will be held in August. Each session includes 10 lessons for $85. July lessons will be held on Monday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. August lessons will be held each weekday morning Aug. 6 through 17. Registration is held at the Mahwah Municipal Pool on 700 Darlington Avenue in Mahwah. Mahwah residency or Mahwah Pool membership is not required. Registration for the Mahwah Marlins Swim and Diving teams is under way. Team participation requires a family membership to the Mahwah Municipal Pool. Both the swim and diving teams participate in the Super Six League and the New Jersey Pool Managers Championships. Teams practice in the evenings until the close of the Mahwah Public Schools, then move to early morning practice. The diving team will practice in both the morning and evening once school lets out. Summer service announced This summer, the Ramapo Reformed Church will offer a contemporary Wednesday night worship service at 7 p.m. This informal service will be held on June 27 and July 11, 18, and 25. Child care will be provided. Paddle Day planned The Mahwah Recreation Committee will host a “Paddle Day” on Tuesday, July 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Lake Henry in Continental Soldiers Park. (Rain date: July 17.) Canoes, kayaks, and life jackets will be provided by Ramsey Outdoor Store. Mahwah residents of all ages are invited to participate. Proof of residency is required. Blood donors sought On June 27, the Courtyard Marriott in Mahwah will sponsor the Mahwah Community Blood Drive in cooperation with Community Blood Services. The drive, which is being held in honor of Mike O’Shea, will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Blood donors will help to ensure that the transfusion needs of area patients are met. The Courtyard Marriott is located at 140 Route 17 South in Mahwah. To schedule an appointment, call Community Blood Services at (201) 2513703. All types of blood are needed, especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation; men over 40 also receive PSA testing. Library hosts Movie Series The Mahwah Pubic Library, located at 100 Ridge Road in Mahwah, presents weekly movies on Thursdays afternoons at 1:30 p.m. These films are free. Popcorn and a drink are provided. No tickets are necessary. Seats will be available on a “first come” basis. During the month of June, the film series will feature recent movies just released on video. The schedule of screenings includes: June 21, “We Need to Talk about Kevin” starring Tilda Swinton, rated R for disturbing violence and behavior, some sexuality and language, 2011 (112 minutes); and June 28 “The Artist” starring Jean Dujardin PG-13 2011 (100 minutes). Knitting group welcomes new members Beginner and advanced knitters are invited to join the monthly knitting circle, Knit One, Drop In, at the Mahwah Public Library. Crocheters are also welcome. The group, which is committed to knitting with a purpose, may send finished projects to Save the Children, Covenant House, or U.S. troops. Yarn is provided and instruction is available. Attendees should bring size eight knitting needles. Registration is not necessary. The group meets the fourth Saturday of the month at 3 p.m. The next meeting will be June 23.
