Smith of Saddle River, formerly of Oceanside, New York, died June 11. He was 86. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He had worked in the U.S. Post Office in Oceanside, New York for many years. He was a parishioner of Saint Gabriel R.C. Church in Saddle River. He is survived by his wife Denise, his daughter Susan and son-in-law Roy Keiper, son Robert and daughter-in-law Mevie Smith, daughter Paula and son-in-law Ted D’Amico, son-in-law Doug Taylor, 10 grandchildren, and seven greatgrandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Kathie Taylor. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Lewis H. Vernazza, formerly of Ramsey, died June 10. He was 73. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was a first generation American of parents Pompeo and Guistina (Zandi) Vernazza from Italy. Before retiring, he was a special agent for the FBI for over 29 years. He is survived by his wife Lyla, his children Michael, and Laurel, and three grandchildren. Carol White of Ramsey died June 10. She was 79. She was a member of the Upper Saddle River Volunteer Ambulance Corps since 1974, where she served in many positions including president and captain. She remained a member of the squad until her death. She was an EMT coordinator and taught hundreds of students at the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute. She was also a New Jersey State emergency medical technician evaluator. She is survived by her children Philip H. White of Englewood and Lisa Gooden of the Township of Washington and Harrisonburg, Virginia, two grandchildren, and her brother David Serls of North Palm Beach, Florida. Hendrik “Hank” Huyser of Mahwah died June 13. He was 81. He was born in Rotterdam, Holland. Before retiring, he was a senior field engineer for IBM Corp in White Plains, New York for 25 years. He is survived by his wife Catharina (nee Lange) Huyser, his children Hank Huyser III of New Providence, Pennsylvania, Shirley Hutsebaut of Oakland, and Theodore Huyser of Holtwood, Pennsylvania, and five grandchildren. He worked for H&R Block from 1989 to 2012. He was a parishioner of Saint Catharine’s Church in Glen Rock and was a member of Hobbyists Unlimited. He is survived by his wife Blanche (Krause), his children Pamela Biggs, Robert M. Rapenske, Cynthia Rapenske, and Susan Garlow, six grandchildren, and his brothers Lincoln Rapenske and Harry Rapenske. He was predeceased by his grandson Justin Biggs, and his brother James. The girls, who are working toward their Silver Award, request donations of canned tuna fish in oil, dog and cat toys, Whiskas cat milk, meat-flavored baby food, soft liver treats, Pupperoni treats, canned pumpkin, nylon slip collars, six-foot nylon leashes, bleach, dishwashing liquid, disinfecting wipes, gallon-size Ziploc bags, Febreeze, and rolls of paper towels. Collection boxes are located at the Ramsey Municipal Building at 33 North Central Avenue and at the Ramsey Free Public Library at 30 Wyckoff Avenue. Donations will be accepted through July 6. Fire department hosts Annual Golf Outing The Ramsey Fire Department will sponsor its second annual RFD Golf Invitational on July 21 at Loch Mor Golf Club in Fallsburg, New York. The cost is $125 per golfer and will include a full day of golf, meals and beverages, and transportation to and from Ramsey. All proceeds will benefit the Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department.
