Ramsey June 20, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 11 Watering regulations are currently in effect in the Borough of Ramsey. Under the terms of Ordinance 10-2000, automatic lawn, garden, and landscape watering is regulated from May 1 through Sept. 30. Owners of properties located east of the railroad tracks may water on Sunday, Tues- Borough reminds residents of watering schedule day, and Thursday. Those with properties west of the railroad tracks may water on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. On days when watering is permitted, in-ground installed water systems may be operated from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m., while aboveground watering systems may be used from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. No automatic watering is permitted at any time on Fridays. Hand held hoses are permitted on all days, including Fridays. Regulations do not apply to the use of water for commercial horticultural nursery use, or to the use of water for newly-installed sod or seed lawns every day except Friday during the hours set forth above for a period of two weeks from installation with written notice provided to the Ramsey Department of Public Works. The borough’s water supply comes from two sources. The first, and primary source, is the borough’s wells. The secondary source is the borough’s long-term contract with United Water, which was implemented to meet residents’ usage demands. “With finite natural resources and all neighboring communities looking to meet their residents’ water usage demands, water conservation becomes an essential part of life in our communities. This need for conservation is only heightened by the extremely dry weather period we have seen over the last several months,” a boroughissued notice states. “Consequently, as we move into our heavy demand period and to try and ensure Ramsey will have a sufficient water supply through this period, without imposing further water restrictions, the borough would like to remind you of our ordinances and regulations on outdoor water use that are always in place.” The notice further states that residents’ cooperation during this normally high consumption period will enhance the borough’s chances of not having to introduce a ban on outdoor watering. Failure to comply with the ordinance can result in issuance of a summons. For additional information, residents may call (201) 825-3400.
