Ramsey June 13, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 5 On June 1, Ramsey Police Chief Bryan Gurney and Ramsey resident Gracie Gracie Brogowski named borough’s chief for a day Brogowski joined along with many other local law enforcement agencies to participate in the second countywide “Chief for a Day” celebration. In partnership with local law enforcement and the communities of Bergen County, Chief for a Day is designed to brighten the lives of local children with chronic health conditions. This program provides children and their families with a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of law enforcement. Brogowski, 12, is a student at Eric Smith School. She enjoys cheerleading, traveling, and reading fashion magazines. “Chief Brogowski” received her own uniform and was sworn in by Mayor Christopher Botta as “Chief for the Day.” Mayor Botta also designated June 1 as “Chief Gracie Brogowski Day” in the Borough of Ramsey. After touring the Ramsey Police Department Headquarters for the morning, Brogowski was transported in Chief Gurney’s police car to the Bergen County Justice Center, where she participated in a group ceremony. At approximately 11:30 a.m., a motorcade left the Justice Center en route to The Landmark in East Rutherford. The new chiefs ended the day with a luncheon and a variety of demonstrations by law enforcement agencies along with the Pipes and Drums of Bergen County and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard. At the conclusion of the festivities, all the children received plaques and certificates commemorating their participation. Last week, Ramsey’s registered voters cast their ballots in favor of the incumbent council members and for Republican County Committee member Douglas Rennie, who fended off a challenge by challenger Jeffrey Heller in District 3. Councilwoman Deirdre Dillon received 415 ballots and Councilman William Jones received 409. The two ran unopposed in the Republican primary. No Democratic council candidates filed. Voters endorse Dillon & Jones; settle county committee races Dillon is presently completing her sixth year as a Ramsey councilwoman and is serving her second year as the borough’s public safety commissioner. She is also liaison to the library board. In 2009, she was council president. She is chief compliance officer and counsel to a registered investment adviser. Jones is a 14-year Ramsey resident and is currently serving his sixth term on the (continued on page 20)
