The drive, which is being held in honor of Mike O’Shea, will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Blood donors will help to ensure that the transfusion needs of area patients are met. The Courtyard Marriott is located at 140 Route 17 South in Mahwah. For an appointment, call Community Blood Services at (201) 251-3703. All types of blood are needed, especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation; men over 40 also receive PSA testing. Library hosts Movie Series The Mahwah Pubic Library, located at 100 Ridge Road in Mahwah, presents weekly movies on Thursdays afternoons at 1:30 p.m. These films are free. Popcorn and a drink are provided. No tickets are necessary. Seats will be available on a “first come” basis. During the month of June, the film series will feature recent movies just released on video. Knitting group welcomes new members Beginner and advanced knitters are invited to join the monthly knitting circle, Knit One, Drop In, at the Mahwah Public Library. Crocheters are also welcome. The group, which is committed to knitting with a purpose, may send finished projects to Save the Children, Covenant House, or U.S. troops. Yarn is provided and instruction is available. Attendees should bring size eight knitting needles. Registration is not necessary. The group meets the fourth Saturday of the month at 3 p.m. The next meeting will be June 23. Networking group available The career transition support and networking group, “Neighbors Helping Neighbors,” meets on Thursdays at 7 p.m. This free peer volunteer support group is open to people who are actively looking for work and would like to reinvigorate their job search. Summer Music Festival begins The Mahwah Public Library 14th Summer Music Festival is under way. The concerts, held at 7 p.m., are free and seating is on a “first come” basis. Doors are closed when the concerts begin. Latecomers will be seated during a convenient break. In cooperation with the Academy of Music Summer Festival, international stars of tomorrow will join with world renowned artists to perform beloved solo and chamber music works by Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendels- sohn, Dvorak, Brahms, Bartok, and others in the following programs. Violinist Mariya Polishchuk will perform June 12. On June 18, the festival will continue with Russian violinist Andrey Roczik and a piano trio. The “Rising Stars” Young Artists of the Academy of Music will perform on Tuesday, June 19. On June 26, the Allegro Singers and pianist Inna Leytush will present scenes from operas that were performed at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1912. Library sets programs for adults The Mahwah Public Library offers a variety of free programs for adults. Seating is provided on a “first come” basis. On June 12, Career Counselor Barbara Brandes will present “Job Search in the Age of the Internet: Get Ready for Your Job Interview” at 7 p.m. Brandes will cover interviewing skills. Brandes is dedicated to helping business professionals define their goals, develop career strategies, and take actions for continued success. She has been a career advisor at Monroe College School of Business and Yeshiva University, and has been director of career counseling at Sarah Lawrence. She has been a career counselor for over 19 years, including eight years as manager of counseling and training at the Bergen Workforce Center in Hackensack and two years as an outplacement consultant for Drake Beam Morin. Allison Moonitz will present “E-Readers 101” on June 19 at 7 p.m. Learn to download free e-books from the library with a Mahwah Library card right to an e-reader. Moonitz will walk participants through the process of downloading books and media to a computer or e-reader. Please note: This is not a hands on workshop. Chamber to honor scholarship recipient The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will honor the 2012 MRCC Ramapo College of New Jersey scholarship recipient at a June 13 luncheon. The event will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the Ramsey Golf & Country Club, located at 105 Lakeside Drive in Ramsey. This year’s scholarship recipient is Lauren Smith of Emerson. Currently a senior at Bergen County Academies in Hackensack, Smith will be attending Ramapo College and plans to become a science teacher. This event, which is open to Chamber members and non-members, offers the opportunity to meet, network, and enjoy the magnificent setting overlooking the golf course and the lake. Representatives from Ramapo College of New Jersey, Eastwick College, and Berkeley College will be speaking at the luncheon. The cost is $35 for Chamber members and $50 for nonmembers. Seniors to visit Terracotta Warriors The Mahwah Seniors have planned a trip to see the Terracotta Warriors at The Exhibition at Discovery Times Square on 226 West 44th Street in New York City on Tuesday, July 24. Participants will discover the legend behind the authentic terracotta soldiers, which includes a fascinating journey back to the time of China’s first emperor. The exhibit includes an exclusive collection of over 200 treasures and artifacts from ancient China. The cost is $61 per person and includes transportation, admission to the exhibit, and lunch at Carmine’s Restaurant.
