The snack bar will sell sandwiches and refreshments. The church is seeking donations of gently-used goods for this sale. Board of health to meet The Mahwah Board of Health will meet June 12 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Mahwah Municipal building at 475 Corporate Drive. Library sets programs for adults The Mahwah Public Library offers a variety of free programs for adults. Seating is provided on a “first come” basis. On June 12, Career Counselor Barbara Brandes will offer a program on the “Job Search in the Age of the Internet: Get Ready for Your Job Interview” at 7 p.m. In her presentation, Brandes will cover interviewing skills. Brandes is dedicated to helping business professionals define their goals, develop career strategies, and take actions for continued success. She has been a career advisor at Monroe College School of Business and Yeshiva University, and has been director of career counseling at Sarah Lawrence. She has been a career counselor for over 19 years, including eight years as manager of counseling and training at the Bergen Workforce Center in Hackensack and two years as an outplacement consultant for Drake Beam Morin. Allison Moonitz will present “E-Readers 101” on June 19 at 7 p.m. Learn to download free e-books from the library with a Mahwah Library card right to an e-reader. Moonitz will walk participants through the process of downloading books and media to a computer or e-reader. Please note: This is not a hands on workshop. Ramapo River Day announced East Jersey Trout Unlimited and Ramapo College faculty invite school groups, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, and youth groups to an environmental education program on Saturday, June 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program will be held on Halifax Road at the Ramapo River in Mahwah. Children in grades four through 12 are invited to this program about the Ramapo watershed. Students will learn what makes a healthy environment, and how to protect it. Attendees will catch and identify insects, conduct water chemistry experiments, learn about non-point source pollution and botany, and try fly casting. Chamber hosts networking event The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold a networking event for Chamber members and non-members at Olé Olé Restaurant, 100 Orange Avenue in Suffern, New York on June 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. Learn about the Chamber, and make new business connections. The gala will be held at the trustees pavilion at Ramapo College at 7:30 p.m. The cost to attend is $25 and will feature wine, hors d’oeuvres, light fare, and birthday cake. There will be live music by Lou Pallo and others. The college is located at 505 Ramapo Valley Road in Mahwah. Many autographed collectibles donated to the museum by a prominent Les Paul autograph collector will be offered in a special auction. There will be opportunities to win autographed guitars—including one signed by George Benson and another signed by Eric Clapton – and other music memorabilia. The items are currently on display at the Mahwah Museum, 201 Franklin Turnpike. Tickets to both the gala and the fundraiser contests may be purchased at the Mahwah Museum. Resources (continued from page 7) The total forest resource area in the township is 10,593 acres, including 9,394 acres in the preservation area and 1,199 acres in the planning area. The township has 77 miles of streams, with 45 miles in the preservation area and 32 miles in the planning area. There are 1,600 acres of wetlands, lakes, and ponds, of which 1,064 acres are in the preservation area and 536 acres are in the planning area. There are 8,143 acres of open water protection areas, with 4,963 acres in the preservation area and 3,180 acres in the planning area. The report describes the critical wildlife habitats and how they could be threatened. The report notes that there are 8,453 acres of preserved lands, with 653 acres owned by the township and 5,347 acres owned by Bergen County. There are 97 acres of preserved farmland in the township. There are 5,118 acres of prime groundwater recharge areas, with 4,572 acres in the preservation area and 545 acres in the planning area.
