Community prepares to welcome church’s new pastor
The congregation of the First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey will welcome new pastor Rev. Steve Huston and his family on Sunday, Jan. 22 at the 10 a.m. service. Rev. Huston earned a bachelor’s degree in Judaic studies from Brown University, and a master of divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. Rev. Huston and his wife, Heather, who is an ordained pastor and licensed school counselor, have two children, Julia, 10, and Harry, 8. During the past eight years, Rev. Huston has served as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Jervis, New York. While at Port Jervis, Rev. Huston used technology to help draw the congregation and community together. His children were involved in operating the sound and video during each worship service. Rev. Huston’s accomplishments include “strengthening the church for its mission by helping people learn healthy ways to communicate with each other, growing prayerful and discerning leaders, re-energizing the church’s commit-
ment to evangelism, helping the church speak the language of culture through technology and social networking and developing community partnerships to help us reach out to people of need.” During his tenure in Port Jervis, Huston was involved in numerous community organizations including the Rotary Club, Community Development Agency, and Group Workcamps Foundation. In 2007 and again in 2009, the church co-sponsored work camps. Each time a camp was held, 400 high school youth came together. Approximately 100 homes were renovated through this effort. All are invited to meet Rev. Huston and his family at next week’s worship service. The First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey is located at 15 Shuart Lane, across from Ramsey Borough Hall.

In one of its first actions of the New Year, the Ramsey Council has decided to reject the lone bid for a self-supporting wireless telecommunications tree pole at the Ramsey Pump Station property on Darlington Avenue. The council resolution rejecting the bid also permits Borough Clerk Meredith Bendian to re-advertise for bids for this project. No timetable has been set for the re-advertisement, but officials expect the action to take place in the coming months. According to the council’s resolution, the borough

opened the bid from Wireless Edge Towers, LLC of New Rochelle, New York, on Dec. 21, and referred the proposal to “the appropriate recommending authority.” However, the borough’s expert, FSD Enterprises, recommended the rejection of the bid as non-responsive to the advertised specifications for the project. The council agreed to take the recommended action. Borough officials decided to pursue a cell tower for the pump station due to a reported lack of coverage in that area of the municipality.
