He graduated from Seton Hall University with a bachelor’s degree and three master’s degrees. He served in the R.O.T.C. and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve, and attained the rank of captain. He was a guidance counselor at Ramsey High School for 16 years, and was named Teacher of the Year. He was a coach for the physical fitness team, The Murray Nuts. He was named the Borough of Ramsey Civil Defense Director, now known as the Office of Emergency Management Coordinator and held that position for 40 years. He served on the Ramsey Borough Council as public safety commissioner. He was an Eagle Scout and recently was the recipient of the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. He was a life member of the Ramsey Ambulance Corps, and had its newest ambulance dedicated to him. He was a life member of the Ramsey Rescue Squad, where he was serving as president. He was the Grand Knight of the Patrick F. Pindar Council of the Knights of Columbus Council 3962 in Ramsey and a Fourth Degree Knight. He was an active parishioner at Saint Paul’s R.C. Church in Ramsey. He continuously made himself available to council young adults. He is survived by his siblings Steve Adams, John Adams and his wife Mary, Susan Purcell and her husband Robert, and Kathy Adams, and several nieces and nephews. Betty Ann Frank of Mahwah died Feb. 16. She was 62. She is survived by her children Stacy M. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Michael F. Adams Angelina E. Frijia, nee Corrado, of Ramsey died Feb. 20. She was 81. She was a parishioner of Saint Paul’s R.C. Church in Ramsey and a member of the Ramsey Leisure Club, the Ramsey Senior Citizens and the 106 Club. She was a bowling instructor for Brunswick Interstate Lanes. She is survived by her children JoAnn Mitchell of Waldwick, Elizabeth Thornhill of New York, New York, Charles of East Windsor, and Joe of Fallston, Maryland, six grandchildren, and her sister Betty Umbra. She is survived by her children Robert, William, and Paul David Lannuier, and Cynthia Tenney, and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband John Converse Lannuier. Arrangements were made by C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood. George Mahoney of Mahwah, formerly of Montvale, died Feb. 20. He was 89. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. Before retiring in 1984, he was employed by the New York Telephone Company for 35 years. He was a member of the Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church in Park Ridge. He is survived by his children Regina Montemarano, Michael, Steven, and Thomas, eight grandchildren, and his sister Ann Hassett. He was predeceased by his wife Jean, his daughter Jacqueline, and his siblings Robert, Jim, Mary Blom, Helen Burke, and Florence Mahoney. Cathy Pelaez of Mahwah and recently of Cape May, died Feb. 15. She had a 30 year career with Liberty Travel, retiring as president of the company. She owned the Peter Angelina E. Frijia John A. Lyons U.S. Army Sergeant John A. Lyons of Seaside Park was killed in action on Oct. 26, 2011. He was a graduate of Rutgers University with a major in Latin and joined the Army in 2009. His cousin Isabel, a Ramsey resident, recently wrote this poem as a class assignment for Valentine’s Day. He was born in Fiume, Italy and grew up in Pola, Istria. He is survived by his wife Pia (nee Zustovich), his children Carol Licata of Upper Saddle River and John of Ramsey, eight grandchildren, and his niece Orietta Colajanni. He was employed by IBM for 35 years as a field engineer and as the company’s representative for the New York Stock Exchange. He received as bachelor’s degree in environmental science and business in 1985 and a bachelor’s of art in environmental studies in 1992, both from Ramapo College. He served as a deacon and elder of The First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey, volunteered building and repairing homes in the U.S. and abroad, prepared meals for shelters, and served on the Ramsey Environmental Commission and the Ramsey Planning Board.
