The event will display beautifully gift-wrapped baskets of donated merchandise and gift certificates. Some baskets have themes, such as jewelry, electronics, food, toys, or baby items. Prizes will include gift certificates to some of the finest area gourmet restaurants and businesses. Library offers programs for adults The Mahwah Public Library offers a variety of free programs for adults. Seating is provided on a “first come” basis. Some of the greatest works of Mozart will be presented by Mozart specialist and pianist Catherine Sprague on Wednesday, Feb. 29 at 7 p.m. Sprague’s program, “Mozart Masterpieces,” will include “Jupiter Symphony,” “Piano Concerto in D minor,” and music from “The Marriage of Figaro” and “The Magic Flute.” Sprague is a member of the Mozart Society of America and author of a forthcoming book about Mozart. In celebration of Women’s History Month, The Palisades Virtuosi will offer a concert, “Women of Note,” on Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m. This trio will featuring selections of music by women composers, including “Baroque Suite for Flute, Clarinet, and Harpsichord” by Elizabeth Raum, “Thumbnail Moon” by Melinda Wagner, “Full Circle for Flute, Clarinet, and Piano” by Gwyneth Walker, “Birding in the Palisades” by Amanda Harberg, “64 & ½” by Margarita Zelenaia, and “Rondo for Ron” by Nancy Bloomer Deussen. On March 11, actors Gary Petagine and Sean Grady will present “The Enemy Within: Benedict Arnold Returns Home” at 2 p.m. After committing treason against the American cause, Arnold was made a brigadier general in the British Army. In this performance, it is Sept. 6, 1781 and Arnold has invaded New London in his home state of Connecticut. He debates with a captured American Continental soldier as a massacre unfolds at nearby Fort Griswold. Petagine and Grady will bring this imagined encounter based on historic facts to life in an entertaining, interactive, and dramatic program. Family Matinee to feature ‘Puss in Boots’ The March 3 Mahwah Public Library Family Matinee will feature “Puss in Boots.” This animated adventure will be on the screen at 2 p.m. when Puss in Boots (voiced by Antonio Banderas) must clear his name. While trying to steal magic beans from the infamous criminals Jack and Jill, the hero crosses paths with his female match, Kitty Softpaws (voiced by Salma Hayek), who leads Puss to his erstwhile friend Humpty Dumpty. Together, the three plan to steal the beans, get to the giant’s castle, nab the golden goose, and clear Puss’ name. The movie is rated PG and runs for 90 minutes. There will be popcorn, movie snacks, and drinks. Admission is free and no tickets are necessary. Seats are on a “first come” basis. The library is located at 100 Ridge Road. Book and film group to meet The Classic Book and Film Society will meet on Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m. The book discussion will highlight F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby.” The club, facilitated by Carolyn Epstein and Rich Thielker, meets one month to discuss classic novels, and the next month to view and discusses the film version of the same story. Epstein, a Mahwah resident, is a teacher with Saint Thomas Aquinas College’s English/writing department. Thielker taught film and literature and the history of film at Pascack Valley High School and at the Pascack Valley Community School. This club is free. No registration is necessary. March Bag Sale planned The Clothing Closet Ministry at the Ramapo Reformed Church will hold a March Bag Sale on Saturday, March 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A wide variety of clothing for adults and children is now available. Items, which include sweaters, blouses, sweatshirts, and slacks, will be sold for $3 per bag. A free jacket or coat will be given away with every bag of clothes purchased while supplies last. The ministry is located at the rear of the education building of the church located at 100 Island Road. All proceeds from the sale benefit the church’s ongoing community ministry. He continued to provide pro bono counseling for the teens and 20-year-olds who are members of Boy Scout Troop 31 and of the local public safety organizations. In 2011, Adams received the Silver Beaver Award from the Northern New Jersey Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The award, established in 1931, is the highest honor a registered adult leader can receive. The Silver Beaver is presented to individuals who do not actively seek recognition, but work diligently, showing self-sacrifice, exceptional character, and dedication. The honoree received a certificate and a miniature silver beaver on a blue and white ribbon, which may be worn around the neck, at the BSA Council’s 13th Annual Recognition Dinner. Adams’ volunteerism was previously recognized by former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman and by former President George W. Bush.
