He is survived by his wife Sallie Jane Brady (Motsch), his children Anne Marie, Eileen, James Jr., Kevin, and Patricia, nine grandchildren, and his brother James Bergin. She is survived by her daughter Vivian Pope of Ramsey, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, and her siblings Anthony Staropoli, Lillian Staropoli, and Josephine Phillips, all of Montvale. She was predeceased by her husband William Gritt, and her son Anthony Gritt. Arrangements were made by Robert Spearing Funeral Home, Inc. in Park Ridge. Charles W. Kraus of Boca Raton, Florida, formerly of Bogota, Franklin Lakes, and Mahwah, died Feb. 10. He was 96. He was a U.S. Merchant Marine veteran of WWII. He graduated from Bogota High School in 1933 and later from the American Institute of Banking. He served on the Bogota Board of Education. At the age of 28, he became the youngest school board president in New Jersey. He was a member of the Bogota Borough Council and served as the Bogota Police Commissioner. He was elected to the New Jersey General Assembly in 1953, and held that post for 11 years. He was Bergen County Road Supervisor and director of public works from 1958-69. He was a Republican National Convention delegate in 1960 and 1964. He was New Jersey gubernatorial campaign manager for his boyhood friend, Walter Jones, the former head of the state Republican Party, in 1960. He was an instructor at the American Institute of Banking, the New Jersey Savings Institute of Education, and Dale Carnegie. He served on the board of directors at Bogota National Bank, Banker’s National Bank, Oakland State Bank, Elmwood State Bank, and Suburban Savings and Loan. In 1980, he was elected the first president of The Esplanade Condominium Association in Boca Raton, Florida. He held that position for 12 years and served on the board of directors for 27 years. He is survived by his daughters Peggy Ann Calitre of Ramsey, Barbara Katherine Vasell of Mount Laurel, and Susan M. Gallitano of Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret Gannon Kraus. Carole Mason, nee Eshmont, of Midland Park, formerly of Ridgewood, died Feb. 9. She was 71. She had been the owner of Stonecroft Interior Design in Midland Park. After 37 years of employment with IBM, he retired and became a partner at ISIS Corp. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Mahwah. He is survived by his wife MargaretMary (nee Fahey), his children Mike of Ridgewood, Cathy Hajo of Mahwah, Eileen Cosenza of Hawthorne, and Larry of Wyckoff, nine grandchildren, and his brothers Richard and John. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. He was a partner in the law firm of Shea & Gould in New York for approximately three decades until the firm dissolved in 1994. Previously, he served as an associate in the New York law firms of Shearman & Sterling and Simpson, and Thacher & Bartlett. He was a member of the Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus, where he served as a member of the consistory as a deacon and a church elder. He taught Sunday school for more than 50 years, and was a member of the church’s chancel and handbell choirs. He was a graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, Class of 1945. He earned a law degree from Columbia University, and earned a master’s degree in taxation from New York University Law School. A charter member of the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra, he was the lone Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra member to play in both the orchestra’s inaugural concert in 1940 and its 70th Anniversary concert. He also was a member of the Glen Rock Pops and the Waldwick Band. He served as Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 254 in Ho-Ho-Kus in the 1960s. He is survived by his wife Constance Tabor Parker of Ho-Ho-Kus, his children Heather McCarty of Monrovia, Maryland, Jennifer O’Ferrell of Maurertown, Virginia, Douglas of Ramsey, Randall of Summit, Daniel of Teaneck, and Clyde of North Arlington, his stepdaughter Constance Parker Fotakis of Winthrop, Maine, six grandchildren, and his twin brother David of Larchmont, New York and Lords Valley, Pennsylvania. Before retiring, she was a loom operator for Montabert Co. of Midland Park for many years. She was a member of the Midland Park Christian Reformed Church. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Olthuis Funeral Home in Midland Park. Edward J. Van Duzer of Wyckoff died Feb. 9. He was 70. He was a musician and an accordionist, who recorded and released the hit song “Big Mouth,” which was played across the region on radio stations. He was the leader of the Eddie Vann Trio. He was the owner and operator of Evan Transportation in Midland Park and Oakland, for many years. He was a member of the Pacemakers Car Club of Midland Park. He was a devoted member of the WyckoffMidland Park Rotary Club, and later the Oakland-Franklin Lakes Club. He was honored by Rotary International with a number of awards, including the Walter D. Head Foundation Award, and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He served on the board of directors of West Bergen Mental Healthcare. He was an active member of the Old Paramus Reformed Church in Ridgewood, where he served as both a deacon and an elder, and was a member of the choir and the Music and Worship Committee. He was a member of the Holland Society of New York and the past president of the Old Bergen Branch. He is survived by his wife Carla (nee Brandt) Van Duzer of Wyckoff, his children Kimberly Chatzilias and Thomas Edward, two grandchildren, and his brother James of Wyckoff. Nancy Barr Vermylen of Saddle River and Shoreham, New York, died Feb. 11. She was 91. She was an alumna of The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, New York (1938) and Trinity College (now Trinity Washington University, 1942). She was a past president of the board of Cerebral Palsy Center of Bergen County, and volunteered for the Valley Hospital Auxiliary and at The Forum School in Waldwick. She was a parishioner of Saint Gabriel’s Church in Saddle River where she was a Eucharistic minister. She is survived by her husband Paul Anthony Vermylen, her children Paul Jr., Jay, Peter, David, Jessica Vermylen Fiddes, Robert, and Mark, 21 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
