Lenten Directed Retreat offered A Lenten Directed Retreat will be offered by Saint Paul’s Church in Ramsey from March 17 through 24. This event is being co-sponsored by the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River and will include one half hour of daily spiritual direction for one week combined with a half hour of prayer. A group of experienced spiritual directors from the surrounding community will present this Lenten program. The retreat will begin and end with a group meeting from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the school library at Saint Paul’s Church. Saint Paul’s is located at 200 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Monday through Friday, each person will meet with his or her spiritual director for 30 minutes daily. These private meetings will be held at a mutually convenient time. Participants are asked to commit to a half hour of prayer each day to make this experience more meaningful. There is no charge for this program. A free will offering may be made at the conclusion. Volunteer to be an ESL tutor at the public library The Ramsey Public Library is seeking volunteers to teach English to speakers of other languages. The English as a Second Language program allows people from various countries to learn English or improve their English speaking, reading, and writing skills. There is currently a great need for volunteers as several prospective ESL students are now on the library’s waiting list. The ESL program matches each student with a volunteer tutor and the two work one-on-one once a week for one hour. Volunteers are trained through the Pascack Valley Literacy Volunteers, based at the Westwood Library. Training workshops are held periodically, and training is free for those who will be tutoring at the Ramsey Library. Tampa Bay Lightning game at Prudential Center on Sunday Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. On the program that day will be a special appearance by the Ramsey Mites during the first intermission. Club plans art fundraiser On March 3, the Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey will host an Art Auction at the Ramsey Golf & County Club from 7 to 11 p.m. The auction will be handled by Marlin Arts. Project Child Find seeks applicants Project Child Find is a service of the New Jersey State Department of Education that was established to indentify unserved, disabled children from birth through age 21. Registration is now taking place in the local school districts, and the Northwest Bergen Council for Special Education is interested in locating individuals who may have disabilities who are in need of special education. Any parent or guardian with an infant or toddler who should be crawling, walking, or talking, but is not doing so, may call for information about resources and services for children under age three. UNICO hosts Texas Hold ‘em Tournament The Greater Ramsey UNICO will host its “That’s Amore Casino Night” March 23 at the Ramsey Golf and Country Club. This fundraiser will feature the Texas Hold ‘em Tournament, an auction, a basket fundraiser, appetizers, dessert, and beverages. Tickets, which include $25 in chips, are $60.
