Board of health plans meeting The Mahwah Board of Health will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The session will be held in the Mahwah Municipal Building at 475 Corporate Drive. Book and film group to meet The Classic Book and Film Society will meet Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. The film discussion will cover “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.” The club, facilitated by Carolyn Epstein and Rich Thielker, meets one month to discuss classic novels, and the next month views and discusses the film version of the same story. Epstein, a Mahwah resident, is a teacher with Saint Thomas Aquinas College’s English/writing department. Thielker taught film and literature and the history of film at Pascack Valley High School and at the Pascack Valley Community School. This club is free. No registration is necessary. Music series program change The Mahwah Public Library invites the public to celebrate Valentine’s Day with “Our Love is Here to Stay,” a Feb. 12 program featuring jazz and blues vocalist Rosalind Grant and pianist Sharp Radway. This 2 p.m. concert replaces “My Romance,” which was initially scheduled. Grant, a native of Jersey City, performs at local jazz venues and community events. She performs with the Spirit of Life Ensemble. Radway is musical director for the Lionel Hampton Celebration Big Band. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Radway is a self-taught pianist whose roots can be found in the church. This pianist, composer, arranger, and author has played throughout the country and abroad. Influential fictional characters to be discussed Co-authors Dan Karlan and Jeremy Salter will present “The 101 Most Influential People Who Never Lived” Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Mahwah Public Library, 100 Ridge Road. The authors will offer an amusing presentation about each of the 101 fictional characters they deem to be the most significant in American cultural history. Among the great invented luminaries are Icarus, Santa Claus, Don Juan, King Kong, Jim Crow, Luke Skywalker, Sherlock Holmes, G.I. Joe, Captain Ahab, Alice, Hamlet, HAL 9000, Mary Richards, Bambi, the Marlboro Man, Big Brother, and Archie Bunker. This program is free. Registration is not required. Tax assistance offered The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program will be available at the Mahwah Public Library, 100 Ridge Road in Mahwah, on Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m. beginning Feb. 11 and on Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. starting Feb. 15. The VITA Program offers free tax help to those with low-to-moderate income who need help in preparing their tax returns. Certified volunteers will assist in preparing basic state and federal tax returns throughout the tax season. Register at the library’s reference desk. Every effort will be made to accommodate walk-ins.
