February 1, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 3 Ramsey Ramsey Superintendent of Schools Dr. Roy R. Montesano will be leaving his post effective June 30. “I have been offered, and have accepted, a post as superintendent of the Hastings-on-Hudson School District,” Dr. Montesano told Villadom TIMES. He will begin his new post July 1. Hastings-on-Hudson is a K-12 district in New York, which does not have salary caps for school employees. New Jersey’s salary caps will soon impact the pay received by school administrators in this state. “After completing 32 years serving as an educator in Bergen County, the time is right for me to pursue other professional opportunities outside the state,” Montesano said. “I want to thank the many outstanding educators that I have had the good fortune to work with over the years, and especially thank the Ramsey Board of Education members and community for the unwavering support in providing the best possible education for the children of Ramsey and Saddle River. The Ramsey district is truly a special place and will always be a part of me. “Ramsey is a very, very special place and will always have a lot of meaning to me personally and professionally. We have a terrific board of education and community. I leave with a lot of positive thoughts and feelings about Ramsey. I have appreciated my time here and hope I’ve made a difference, especially for the students. I’m looking forward to this new opportunity.” Commenting on Montesano’s decision, Ramsey School Board President John Nunziata said, “This is a tremendous loss for the students, staff, and residents of Ramsey. Dr. Montesano is an education visionary who has set the Ramsey district on course to meet the changing needs of 21st century learners. We wish Roy, Lisa, and their family good fortune in their new stage of life.” Nunziata indicated that the board would immediately initiate a search for a new superintendent. He said he is confident that Ramsey will attract competent, experienced candidates for the position. Superintendent accepts new post in New York district Trustee Carrie Williams stated,” Dr. Montesano has been a well-respected leader within our district. He has been the driving force behind the academic excellence and positive learning environment that our students experience within the Ramsey schools.” Montesano was born and raised in Hackensack. He attended Cook College at Rutgers University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies. He received his master’s degree in administration from Seton Hall University and earned his doctorate in education in administration from Fordham University. Montesano has 25 years of experience as a school administrator. He joined the Ramsey Public School District in 2006, having previously served as superintendent in Westwood for six years. He has also served as middle (continued on page 17) Ramsey Superintendent of Schools Dr. Roy R. Montesano. In recognizing Montesano’s contributions to Ramsey schools, 18-year trustee Richard Snyder commented, “Roy was top flight when we hired him and he continued to improve. His accomplishments have added to our reasons for being proud of our school district.” Board of Education Vice President Tony Gasparovich said, “Six years ago, Ramsey sought a new leader. We found a great leader and visionary. The taxpayers and children of Ramsey and Saddle River have been the beneficiaries of Dr. Montesano’s great work.”
