Students in the Marketing II class at Ramsey High School, taught by Mrs. Alexis Tadduni, were given the opportunity to experience firsthand the lessons and concepts they have been learning about in class. The presentation was organized by Sean McOwen and Kevin Calzavara, two Marketing II students who are working on a 30 page project-based research paper for the New Jersey State DECA competition. Their project is called Entrepreneur-
ship Promotion, and one way they felt they could promote the concept of entrepreneurship to their peers was to have a local young entrepreneur come in to talk with them. John Fitzpatrick, the owner of Jersey Burger in Ramsey visited the class and gave a presentation that included discussions about his experiences, how he went about taking over Jersey Burger, how he overcame obstacles along the way, how he manages his business on a day-to-day basis,
how difficult it is for small businesses to compete against the larger chain franchises, as well as many of the pros and cons of owning a business. The staff and students of Ramsey High School appreciate the time and expertise Fitzpatrick shared and the information that reached far beyond opening a small business. He taught the students many important life lessons, such as following their dreams, and the importance of hard work.
