Nicene Creed study offered The Church of the Immaculate Conception will present a five-part study of the Nicene Creed, “Credo,” in celebration of its Year of Faith. This program will be held on Jan. 24, Feb. 21, and March 14 at 7:30 p.m. “Credo” will feature guest speakers Rev. Douglas Milewski, S.T.D., professor of theology at the Immaculate Conception School of Theology at Seton Hall; Sister Mary Gabriel, SV of the Sisters of Life; Maria Parker, teacher and former FOCUS Missionary; Father Andrew Apostoli of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal; and Dr. Ines Murzaku, Ph.D., professor of religious studies at Seton Hall University. Every week, Christians pray the ancient words of the Nicene Creed. Like the first disciples, when Christians today pray “credo” at the beginning of the Nicene Creed, they are saying, “I give my heart and loyalty to God.” The program will explore what Christians mean when they say “I believe.” Registration is required and may be completed by contacting Jennifer Edwards at (201) 327-1276 or Jennifer. Family Movie Matinee set The Mahwah Public Library will offer a Family Movie Matinee on Saturday, Jan. 5. The 2 p.m. feature presentation will be “Men in Black 3.” Agent J (Will Smith) travels in time to MIB’s early years in the 1960s, to stop an alien from assassinating his friend Agent K and changing history. Church has free seasonal clothing available for infants, children, and adults. Items include a variety of sweaters, coats, jackets, shirts, jeans, dresses, sneakers, shoes, and more. For a referral, call the Mahwah Township Department of Human Services at (201) 529-5757. Mahwah residency is not required. An appointment will be made with the volunteers of the Clothing Closet. The thrift shop is located at the rear of the education building of the church located at the corner of Island Road and West Ramapo Road in Mahwah. Donations of seasonal clothing are accepted on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Library celebrates 100th Anniversary In celebration of its 100th Anniversary, the Mahwah Public Library is presenting a series of free movies set in 1912. The films are shown at 1:30 p.m. at the library located at 100 Ridge Road. Each film will be accompanied by an original short film from 1912. The schedule includes “The Music Man,” Dec. 18; “Pygmalion,” Dec. 19; “and “A Night to Remember,” Dec. 21. No registration is necessary. Snacks and lemonade will be provided. Church announces holiday services The Ramapo Reformed Church, located at 100 Island Avenue in Mahwah, will celebrate Advent and Christmas with additional services and events. On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, candlelight services will be held at 7 and 11 p.m. The earlier service is informal and family oriented. Both services will feature traditional lessons and carols. The church offers Sunday school for children from age three through the sixth grade. The regular Sunday service is held at 10:30 a.m. and a nursery is provided. Santa to visit Mahwah Museum Santa Claus will visit the Donald Cooper Railroad at the Mahwah Museum, 201 Franklin Turnpike, on Friday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. The HO-scale model railroad will be open on Fridays
from 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. until Christmas. The railroad, which operates eight trains, including Thomas the Tank Engine, contains street fairs, a skateboard park, construction sites, and a replica of the Great Falls of Paterson. The museum’s ongoing exhibits, “Les Paul in Mahwah” and “New Jersey Fights in the Civil War,” will be open during Santa’s visit. Movie feature cancelled The Mahwah Pubic Library, located at 100 Ridge Road in Mahwah, has announced the cancellation of the Dec. 20 feature presentation of “The Lightkeepers.” The December lineup will include a screening of “The Vow” on Dec. 27. A car accident leaves Paige (Rachel McAdams) in a coma. When she wakes up with severe memory loss, her husband Leo (Channing Tatum) works to win her heart again. This film is rated PG-13 and runs for 104 minutes. Thursday afternoon movies begin at 1:30 p.m. and are free. Popcorn and beverages are provided. No tickets are necessary. Group to discuss Saint Luke’s Gospel At 5 p.m. on Dec. 30, the Not by Bread Alone Spiritual Book Group will discuss Scott Hahn’s “A Father Who Keeps His Promises” at Panera Bread, 1300 Route 17 in Ramsey. Readers are offered an accessible “birds-eye” view of the Bible, revealing the Scriptures for what they are: a story of God’s love for all people. Dr. Hahn follows God’s plan for the ages, beginning with Adam and Eve and continuing through the generations to the coming of Christ and the birth of the Church. The group’s upcoming schedule will include: “Meeting Jesus in the Gospels” by George Martin on Jan. 27, 2013, and “Sober Intoxication of the Spirit” by Raniero Cantalemessa on Feb. 24.
