Board of health to meet The Mahwah Board of Health will meet Dec. 11 in the Mahwah Municipal Building located at 475 Corporate Drive. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Group to discuss Saint Luke’s Gospel At 5 p.m. on Dec. 30, the Not by Bread Alone Spiritual Book Group will discuss Scott Hahn’s “A Father Who Keeps His Promises” at Panera Bread, 1300 Route 17 in Ramsey. Readers are offered an accessible “birds-eye” view of the Bible, revealing the Scriptures for what they are: a story of God’s love for all people. Dr. Hahn follows God’s plan for the ages, beginning with Adam and Eve and continuing through the generations to the coming of Christ and the birth of the Church. The group’s upcoming schedule will include: “Meeting Jesus in the Gospels” by George Martin on Jan. 27, 2013, and “Sober Intoxication of the Spirit” by Raniero Cantalemessa on Feb. 24. Chanteurs perform Holiday Concert The New Jersey Choral Society Chanteurs will perform a Holiday Concert on Sunday, Dec. 16 at the Mahwah Public Library at 2 p.m. This festive program will feature favorite Christmas songs, including “The Christmas Song,” “White Christmas,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “The First Nowell,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” and many more. The NJCS Chanteurs is a vocal ensemble of 16 to 24 NJCS members. The group provides musical entertainment to community or non-profit events, meetings, or parties. Chanteurs is directed by Jill Guartafierro and accompanied by Caroline Parody. This concert is free. No tickets are necessary. Seats will be available on a “first come” basis. For details, call (201) 529-READ. ‘Support Our Troops’ fundraiser rescheduled The sixth annual Support Our Troops Night at Mahwah Bar & Grill, 2 Island Road in Mahwah, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 5. Between the hours of 5 and 10 p.m., the restaurant will donate 10 percent of dinner sales (food only) to the Mahwah Marine Moms/North Jersey Military Moms. Toy drive to benefit needy children Ridgewood Moving Services is collecting gently-used toys and non-perishable food items. The toys will be donated to the Paterson Boys and Girls Club Toy Sale. The food will be forwarded to CUMAC in Paterson. Ridgewood Moving Services, located at 575 Corporate Drive in Mahwah, will collect toys through Dec. 6 and take them to the Boys and Girls Club in time for the sale. John J. McCarthy of Wyckoff, formerly of Mahwah, Dumont, and Old Tappan, has been chosen as a member of the Electoral College, which officially elects the United States President as provided by the Constitution. As a result of the Nov. 6 election, President Barack Obama will receive New Jersey’s 14 votes when the Electoral College convenes on Dec. 17. The state receives one vote for each U.S. Senator and member of the House of Representatives. McCarthy, long active in governmental affairs, was recommended to the state party by Bergen County Democratic Chairman Lou Stelatto. He was nominated by the Democratic State Committee at its meeting in September. He is a former secretary of the New Jersey Senate, treasurer of the Bergen County Utilities Authority, and a past commis-

sioner of economic development. He was also a candidate for the New Jersey Senate. Holding many positions in the Democratic Party, he is a former member of the state committee, and district and municipal chairman. He has been a delegate to national conventions and President Jimmy Carter’s Bergen County Campaign Chairman in 1976. His family is also involved in public service. His wife Bernadette Callahan McCarthy is a former deputy clerk of the General Assembly and a former district chairperson. His two daughters held positions in Bergen County, and his son has twice been a candidate for the assembly. His sonin-law is a municipal judge, his granddaughter was clerk to the Board of Freeholders, and his grandson is an aide to a freeholder.
