Syder Scholarship applicants sought Applications for the Edward C. Syder Scholarship Foundation for the 2012 school year are now available. Eligible applicants must be residents of Ramsey who have completed their freshman year of college. Qualified applicants for these scholarship awards must demonstrate meritorious academic accomplishment and contribution to their college community, and must be of high personal character. College or graduate students who are current residents of Ramsey and meet the academic and service criteria are invited to write to the Edward C. Syder Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 729, Ramsey, New Jersey 07446, or e-mail Synderscholarship@gmail.com for an application. Application forms must be completed by Nov. 19, 2012. There will be no extension of time. The scholarship awards will
be announced by Dec. 10, 2012 and granted for the 2013 spring term. Farmers Market open The Ramsey Farmers Market is open each Sunday at the Main Street train station from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market abounds with fresh, local, seasonal produce, and other products. Artisanal breads and cheeses, coffees and teas, gourmet olive oils, free range eggs, local honey, gluten-free baked products, organic prepared foods, wines, and other products from over 35 vendors are available. The schedule of entertainment includes: Aug. 26, Pete Holdgren; Sept. 2, Dario Scholis; and Sept. 9, Ethan Fiks. The Ramsey Farmers Market is sponsored by the Ramsey Historical Association. Used sports equipment sought The Ramsey Recreation Commission is collecting used sports equipment for area urban youth groups. Residents may bring equipment donations to the Ramsey Farmers Market at the Main Street train station on Aug. 26. Support group forming A new Alzheimer’s Caregivers’ Support Group will meet on Thursday, Aug. 23 at the Ramsey Public Library, 30 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Anyone with a family member who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia disorder is invited to share his or her concerns in this supportive, caring, and confidential environment. The group is offered through the trained facilitators at Distinctive Care Geriatric Care Management
in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association of New Jersey. Sophia Heftler, nurse and founder of Distinctive Care Geriatric Care Management, will facilitate the meeting. Knights plan a day of golf The Ramsey Knights of Columbus Council #3962 will host its Annual Charity Golf Outing on Friday, Oct. 5 at the Wallkill Golf Club in Middletown, New York. This event will benefit various local charities. The cost to attend is $130 and includes the day of golf, a cart, breakfast and lunch, and dinner, which will be served at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Ramsey.
