Hermitage hosts Craft Show Friends of the Hermitage will sponsor an Outdoor Craft Show at the Hermitage, 335 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus, on Saturday, Aug. 18. The day-long event will be held rain or shine from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Over 70 exhibitors will be set up on the shaded front lawn. Participating vendors will be offering handcrafted items, art, and a large selection of photographs. Items will include stained glass; apparel; florals; pet and garden items; handcrafted silver, bead, stone, and crystal jewelry; turned wood; designer birdhouses; leather and silk items; vintage linens; soft sculpture; decoupage; handmade soaps and candles and more. Surf and Turf benefit planned A Surf and Turf Dinner to benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation will be held at Nellie’s Place, 9 Franklin Turnpike in Waldwick, on Wednesday, Sept. 5. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and include salad, filet mignon, lobster tail, roasted potatoes, vegetables, coffee, tea, and soda. Seating is limited. Holland Home sets free concert The Holland Christian Home in North Haledon will hold its “Summer Nights at the Gazebo,” a series of free, monthly outdoor concerts open to music lovers of all ages. The next concert, set for Aug. 21 at 7 p.m., will feature Cornucopia, a jazz trio. Concerts are held at the gazebo on the Holland Christian Home campus at 151 Graham Avenue. In the event of rain, the performances are moved indoors to the chapel. Seating is provided, but attendees are invited to bring their favorite lawn chairs. Refreshments will be served following each concert. This concert concludes this year’s concert series. NJBG holds Summer Craft Fair A Summer Craft Fair will be held at the New Jersey Botanical Garden on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fair will feature crafts, including jewelry, pottery, sculpture, photography, art, kids’ items, and many unusual goodies. Food and beverages will also be available. Attendees are invited to take a walk in the gardens and enjoy the formal plantings and the shady woodlands. Admission is free, but there is a $5 per car parking fee. The New Jersey State Botanical Garden at Skylands, which appears on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places, is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day of the year. Admission to the garden is always free. Parking is also free in the fall, winter, and spring. In 1966, the State of New Jersey purchased the 1,117 acres of Skylands, a former country estate and the state’s first acquisition under the Green Acres preservation program. Governor Thomas Kean designated the central 96 acres surrounding the manor house as the state’s official botanical garden in 1984. Since 1976, NJBG/Skylands Association, an incorporated, member-supported non-profit organization, has worked with the state to preserve and protect Skylands and its structures. NJBG sponsors volunteer gardeners, educational programs, concerts, and events throughout the year. NJBG/Skylands is located on Morris Road in Ringwood.
