(continued from Restaurant page) (Edouard Mathe) in his efforts to expose a vast criminal organization known as Vampires. Joined by a criminal sidekick, Mazanette (Marcel Levasque), and often competing against a rival gang lord (Fernand Herrmann), Guerande dethrones a succession of the Vampires’ Grand Masters. But most evasive of all is the Vampires’ muse, Irma Vep (Musidora), a seductive assassin who performs her job with deadly grace. Mastered in HD from the 35-millimeter restoration produced by the Cinematheque Francaise, the silent serial is accompanied by a musical score performed by the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra. “The Snowtown Murders” (IFC Films) is based on horrifying crimes discovered in Australia in 1999. Hoping for much-needed stability and security in their lives, single mother Elizabeth (Louise Harris) and her three sons take up with John Bunting (David Henshall), the head of a vigilante neighborhood watch group. At first, John seems the solution to her problems, providing food and comfort for the struggling family. His charismatic nature causes Louise’s withdrawn, sexually abused 16-year-old son Jamie (Lucas Pittaway) to view him as a role model, and the two quickly form a bond. When John introduces Jamie to his disturbing ideas of administering justice, starting with the pedophile who lives across the street, the impressionable boy is confronted with a father figure who may be the most vicious predator he has ever encountered. The subsequent events leave Jamie and everyone else in John’s world disoriented and in fear for their lives. “The Snowtown Murders,” a DVD release, is a stark look into a brutal subculture of suspicion, addiction, and violence. “Dexter: The Complete Sixth Season” (CBS Viveo) is a three-disc Blu-ray set chronicling the exploits of mildmannered but grisly serial killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall). It has been a year since the fifth season’s emotional conclusion, and Dexter has finally come to terms with his identity. As he tries to move on, his existence is shattered when he crosses paths with an enemy unlike any he has faced before. The new adversary, a delusional religious zealot, draws Dexter into a dangerous game that could end in disaster. Special features include interviews with several cast members and episodes of three other Showtime series.
