Fall programs available Registration for the Ramsey Adult School fall semester will begin Monday, Aug.13. A wide variety of classes and trips are available. RAS offers from beginner to advanced classes in Pilates, yoga, chi quiong, basketball, volleyball, kickboxing, hiking, Zumba©, and more. Dance classes are also a great way to exercise. Participants may try tap, line, or ballroom dancing. The adult school offers classes in knitting, sewing, woodworking, painting, drawing, photography, stained glass making, floral arranging, silver and gold jewelry making, upholstery, and oil painting, which is new this semester. Cooking classes are available for every taste. Learn the art of cooking fish, perfecting French pastries and pies, molding chocolates, or decorating cookies like a pro. Learn healthy eating and cooking habits in the new Cooking for Optimal Health or the Kitchen Pharmacy classes. Enjoy a trip to New York City, but forget the traffic, parking lot fees, gas prices, and tolls. RAS offers over 20 day trips to points of interest including the New York Botanical Garden and the National Sept. 11 Memorial. Enjoy a Hudson River cruise, or a New York City Lights and Shopping tour just in time for the holidays. Take in a Broadway show. VBS seeks volunteers, campers This summer, Highlands Presbyterian Church of Allendale and the First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey will present a joint Vacation Bible School, “Adventure of the Treasure Seekers.” Sessions will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 15 Shuart Lane in Ramsey. The program will be held Aug. 13 through 17 from 9 a.m. to
noon. Volunteers are needed to make this ministry a success. The following assistance is needed: teachers, shepherds to guide groups of students between activities, and dramatic and musical leaders for the opening and closing assemblies each day. Volunteers are also needed to help with decorations, coordinate and provide snacks, and obtain supplies. Call Meg at (201) 327-3879. Daisy Troops seeks new members Ramsey Girl Scouts are recruiting Daisies. All girls entering any Ramsey kindergarten program, or who reside in Ramsey, are eligible to join. Farmers Market open The Ramsey Farmers Market offers organic and traditional produce, artisanal breads and cheeses, gluten-free baked products, gourmet olive oils and balsamic vinegars, eggs from free-range chickens, local wines, fresh fish from the Hampton Bays, prepared organic foods, homemade pastas, gourmet teas, coffees, local honey, fresh flowers, handmade artisanal ice pops, nuts, dried fruits, pickles, olives, homemade chili, organic toffee, and more. Market shoppers have the opportunity to purchase fresh and locally grown products as they get to know various farmers and vendors. The Ramsey Farmers Market will continue outdoors each Sunday through Nov. 18, rain or shine. This season, the market will host six Artisans’ Corners, hosting local artists and craft makers on the third Sunday of each month. Upcoming entertainment is as follows: Aug. 12, David Jacobsen; Aug. 19, Carolyn Messina; and Aug. 26, Pete Holdgren. The market will continue its commitment to supporting local farming and a sustainable community focusing on recycling, ways to reduce everyone’s carbon footprint, and community wellness. The Pay it Forward program will continue to collect donations of non-perishable foods from
market patrons and fresh produce from farmers, all of which are delivered to the Center for Food Action in Mahwah. The Ramsey Farmers Market is sponsored by the Ramsey Historical Association. Seniors plan trip The Ramsey Seniors will travel by a bus to Essex, Connecticut on Wednesday, Aug. 22. This day trip will include lunch at the Griswold Inn, a stream train ride, and a cruise on the Connecticut River aboard a paddlewheel boat. The cost is $70 per person and registration is under way at borough hall. Library announces summer hours During the summer, the Ramsey Library will be open Sundays from noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This schedule will remain in effect through Sept. 3. The library, located at 30 Wyckoff Avenue, will be closed Sept. 1, 2, and 3. Atom and Mites players wanted The Ramsey Hockey Association is hosting open enrollment for the Atom and Mite fall 2012 season. The program is open to children whose birth year is 2004 or later. To download a registration form, visit RamseyHockey.com. The association will pay the first session’s enrollment fee for Atom players as an incentive.
