April 25, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 17 Ramsey Review Community Blood Drive set The Bergen Highlands Rotary Club and Coldwell Banker have joined forces to sponsor the Ramsey Community Blood Drive on Monday, April 30 at the Coldwell Banker office at 147 East Main Street. The drive, which will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., will help ensure that the transfusion needs of area patients are met. To schedule an appointment, call Community Blood Services at (201) 251-3703. All types of blood are needed especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. Church plans Rummage Sale Saint John’s Memorial Episcopal Church, located on the corner of Main Street and Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey, will hold a Rummage Sale on May 11 and 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The sale will include clothing for the family, shoes, accessories, toys, miscellaneous kitchen and household items, linens, decorations, and more. The church’s weekly worship schedule includes Sunday services at 8 and 10 a.m., and a Celtic Mass on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. Seniors, Scouts to compete The Ramsey Seniors will challenge the Ramsey Girls Scouts in two Wii tournaments. The competitors will be bowling on Saturday, April 28 and playing tennis on Saturday, May 5. Both tournaments will begin at 2 p.m. at the Ramsey Senior Center. Ramsey Girl Scout Preethi Sankaran has been coaching the seniors in Wii sports since November for her Gold Award service project. The seniors have been training in interactive tennis, baseball, bowling, golf, and boxing in twice weekly sessions run by Sankaran. Seniors who wish to compete may register at the senior center in Finch Park by April 20. Friends and families are invited to cheer on the seniors and Girl Scouts. Refreshments will be served. Ramsey High School Girl Scouts who are interested in participating in the competition may contact Sankaran at preethi1495@gmail.com. Seniors plan activities Spring activities for local seniors have begun with bocce being played on the courts by the Ramsey Pool. The men play on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 1 p.m. Ladies bocce will begin on Thursday, May 3 at 10 a.m. The walking group meets every day at 8 a.m. by Varka Restaurant. The seniors will host a bus trip to New York City to see the Tony Award-winning musical “Memphis” on June 13. Sign up at borough hall beginning Tuesday, April 24 at 10 a.m. Checks should be made payable to the Borough of Ramsey. Proof of residency will be required. The cost is $80 per person and includes transportation, lunch at Lattanzi Restaurant on 46th Street, and admission to the show. An AARP 55-Alive Defensive Driving Course will be offered at the senior center on Thursday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sign up at borough hall. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Checks should be made payable to AARP. Participants should bring a New Jersey driver’s license, and are encouraged to bring lunch and a beverage. Leisure Club travels to Jersey Shore The Ramsey Leisure Club has planned a three-day bus trip to Wildwood, Cape May, and Atlantic City for Sept. 18 through 20. The trip will include two nights in Wildwood. The first day will include lunch and a wine sampling at the Tomasello Winery, dinner, and entertainment. The group’s visit to Cape May will include a visit to the Physick Estate, a trolley tour, a walk through the historical district’s Washington Mall, and dinner and show at Elaine’s Victorian Dinner Theater. The third day of the trip will include a visit the Wildwood boardwalk, and time in Atlantic City and the casinos. Call Connie at (201) 327-4170 for further information and reservations. Friends hold Book Sale, collect used books The Friends of the Ramsey Library’s Spring Book Sale will be held April 28 and 29 during regular library hours. A preview for Friends members will be available on Friday, April 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. Donations of books will be accepted through April 26. Please note that no textbooks or magazines can be accepted. Muti to discuss crime book Local author Richard Muti will discuss his new true crime story, “The Charmer: The True Story of Robert Reldan -- Rapist, Murderer, and Millionaire -- and the Women Who Fell Victim to His Allure” at the Ramsey Library on Sunday, May 20 at 2 p.m. The library is located at 30 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Muti, a former borough mayor and current school trustee, has a legal background with the county prosecutor’s office as does his co-author Charles Buckley. Hear about their investigation into the series of crimes traced to Reldan. Copies of the book will be available for sale and the author will sign copies. Proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Ramsey Library. Book group to discuss ‘Caleb’s Crossing’ The First Presbyterian Church’s The Literary Ladies will meet on Wednesday, April 25 to discuss “Caleb’s Crossing” by Geraldine Brooks.
