The Maundy Thursday service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on April 5 and will include personal meditation, prayers, music, and Holy Communion. Two Good Friday services based on the theme “Nails of the Cross” will be held at 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on April 6. At each service, worshipers will be given a nail as a symbol of personal suffering. There will be Scripture readings, prayers, hymns, and the candles will be extinguished. On Easter Sunday, April 8, a 10 a.m. service will celebrate Christ’s resurrection. A sermon will be delivered by Pastor Marsden. There will also be special music by the choir, organ, and brass, and the congregation will join the choir in Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” Celebrate Easter at Zion Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saddle River will begin its observance of the “Three Holy Days’ before Easter on Maundy Thursday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. April 4, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 13 Holy Communion will be celebrated at this service. On Good Friday, April 6, the church will observe the ancient service of Tenabrae, the service of extinguishing of lights. There will be a reading about Christ’s death. When the final candle is extinguished, the church will be left in total darkness except for the small light of the Christ candle. The congregation will gather in the cemetery behind the church on Easter Sunday, April 8, for a 6 a.m. Sunrise Service. Holy Communion will be celebrated. From 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., breakfast will be served in Fellowship Hall. The Easter Family Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. with the Bell Choir and Holy Communion. Easter plants will be distributed to children who attend the service. At 11 a.m., the Easter Festival Service, there will be a full Easter processional, a Gospel procession, and the reading of the Gospel. The Festival and Bell choirs will be featured. Holy Communion will be celebrated. Ramapo Reformed celebrates the season Ramapo Reformed Church in Mahwah will hold a 7:30 p.m. service on Maundy Thursday, April 5. A Tennebrae Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Good Friday, April 6. The church will remain open until 11 p.m. for reflection and prayer. The annual Easter Egg Hunt and Pancake Breakfast will be held Saturday, April 7 at 9 a.m. Tickets are $8. Children under three years old will be admitted free.
