Citizens request sewer hookup
by Jennifer Crusco Saddle River residents Jim and Patty Boyd have asked the Ho-Ho-Kus Council to consider approving a connection from their Mill Road property to the Ho-Ho-Kus sewer system. Speaking at last week’s council work session, the Boyds explained that their home is up for sale and is currently under contract. As part of the sale process, the citizens had been pursuing a new septic system. However, various restrictions involving nearby wells and a creek have led the Boyds to the conclusion that the sewer connection is a more viable option. In a telephone interview after the meeting, Patty Boyd told Villadom TIMES that she and her husband had written to Ho-Ho-Kus in early August to request a sewer connection. However, she said the council only planned to meet once that month, and the timing of the late August session caused the homeowners concern since they had agreed to a September closing date. The Boyds then pursued the replacement of the existing septic system. As their research into the project progressed and they spoke with Saddle River’s engineer, they encoun-
tered various obstacles. Mrs. Boyd noted that there is a 25foot no-disturbance zone on each side of the property line, which she said presents a problem because the property is just under one acre. The Boyds also learned that their project would be too close to their neighbor’s well, their own well, and the creek that cuts through the subject property. “We realized it was not feasible to fix the septic system,” Mrs. Boyd told Villadom TIMES.
