September 19, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 19 Ho-Ho-Kus Jottings Woman’s Club hosts Open House The Woman’s Club of Ho-Ho-Kus will host an Open House Luncheon on Monday, Oct. 1. The event will be held at noon in Saint Bartholomew’s Church hall, which is located at 70 Sheridan Avenue. All are invited to attend and hear about the organization’s activities and programs. The group is part of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs, the oldest volunteer service organized in the state. At the meeting, the club’s Girls Career Institute representative will discuss her experience. In addition, florist Glen Carullo will present a demonstration of ideas for a fall arrangement. To register, or for details, call (201) 652-2236. Seniors plan fall events Space Historian Joe Lennox will offer a presentation on Apollo 13 to the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors on Sept. 25. The seniors group meets in the Hermitage Education Building at 335 Franklin Turnpike. Beverages and desserts are served at noon, and program will begin at 1 p.m. Residents age 55 and up are welcome to attend. Upcoming events planned include a trip to the Platzl Brauhaus in Pomona, New York for an Oktoberfest on Oct. 24; the Fiesta on Nov. 13, and an outing to Hunterdon Hills on Dec. 3. Library news The Worth Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-Ho-Kus has announced patrons may now download books to their Kindle from home via www.beateaudio.org. Valid library cards are required. All instructions are on the website. The library has a number of language CDs, DVDs, and flash drives for patrons who wish to learn a new language. Programs for adults are available in English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Latin, Chinese, and Italian. For children, there are programs in English, Korean, Japanese, Italian, German, Spanish, and French. The Muzzy BBC Several members of the Wyckoff YMCA Senior Table Tennis Club competed in the New Jersey State Senior Olympics, which was held in Woodbridge on Sept. 8. Players competed in different age groups. Betty Chan from Ho-Ho-Kus (left) won the single women’s gold medal. Snow Chu of Ramsey (center) won the silver medal, and Annie DuHaine of Bloomingdale (right) won the silver medal in her group. The winners will qualify to compete in the National Senior Olympics in Cleveland, Ohio in 2013. Good sports language DVDs for children are available in Spanish, ESL, German, French, Chinese, and Italian. The library also has Muzzy Interactive Language, Games and Exercises on CD, in Spanish and French. Children may also borrow “Speak Spanish with Dora and Diego.” Soon to be available for borrowing will be “Shmoop,” a computer-based tutorial for the SAT, PSAT, ACT, or AP exams.
