Boys who are in grades one through five are welcome to participate. Boys are divided into dens according to grade level and participate in weekly or bi-weekly den meetings and monthly pack events. Upper Saddle River boys are invited to join the pack for the annual Cub Car Derby on Sept. 21. This event will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the driveway of Cavallini School, 392 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. (Rain date: Sept. 22.) Lions hold Herb Bodensiek Golf Classic The Saddle River Valley Lions Club will host its Seventh Annual Herb Bodensiek Golf Classic on Monday, Oct. 1 at the Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, New York. The day will begin with a continental breakfast is at 7 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The $110 cost per player includes golf, cart, continental breakfast, and barbecue lunch on the deck. A hole-in-one contest with a grand prize of $5,000 plus special contests and fundraisers will round out the day. The Herb Bodensiek Golf Classic is one of the club’s major fundraising events. The club, founded in 1958, has raised over $1,900,000 for local charities and volunteer community organizations. The Saddle River Valley Lions Club mainly serves the communities of Mahwah, Ramsey, Saddle River, and Upper Saddle River. Members of the club come from 13 different communities. Friends to host Book Sale located at 392 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. Nutrition program offered Christine Okezie, a natural foods chef and certified holistic health counselor, will present a seven-week culinary nutrition program at the Upper Saddle River Library. Sessions will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursdays beginning Sept. 20. Okezie will discuss the culinary tools and lifestyle tips necessary to increase energy, boost immunity, reduce cravings, and start on a path to healthier living and positive lifestyle changes. Richard’s Run The Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library will hold the first Book Sale of the 2012-13 season on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Members of the Friends may come as early as 9 a.m. Memberships will be available at the library the morning of the sale. The shelves are stocked with gently used books, including fiction and non-fiction for all ages, and a wide variety of children’s books.
