Board of education to meet The Allendale Board of Education will meet on Monday, Sept. 24 . The 8 p.m. meeting will be held in the Brookside School Library, located at 100 Brookside Avenue. AFEE plans shopping benefit The Allendale Foundation for Educational Excellence, Inc. will participate in Lord & Taylor’s “Shop ‘til You Drop” benefit bash on Thursday, Oct. 4. Attendees may purchase a ticket from AFEE for $5, which entitles the bearer to exclusive all-day savings. Tickets holders will receive 15 percent off merchandise, two one-time use coupons for 25 percent off, and a 15 percent savings coupon for use at the L&T Home Store. Patrons who use their Lord & Taylor charge account will save an additional 10 percent on purchases. There are very limited exclusions to the sale. The pre-sale for fragrances and cosmetics will begin Sept. 1. The pre-sales for all other departments will begin Sept. 29. Merchandise may be picked up on the day of the sale. Allendale businesses are welcome to join. Interfaith program to begin Dr. Hossein Kamaly will present “Muslims: Neighbors Not Strangers” at Highlands Presbyterian Church in Allendale on Sept. 23. Kamaly, an Iranian by birth, is an assistant professor in Asian and Middle Eastern cultures at Barnard College, and a speaker on the history of Islam. His pro- The name of Field Four at Crestwood Park has been changed to Kunisch Field in honor of Michael Walter Kunisch and his family, who created the field and spent several decades maintaining it. A proclamation at the Sept. 13 public meeting of the Allendale Borough Council recognized the role Kunisch and his family played in the life of the field for several generations of residents and guests. Kunisch was born and raised in Allendale, attended Brookside School, and graduated from Ramsey High School in 1959. He owned and operated the Allen- Sports field named in honor of Kunisch dale Bar and Grill starting in 1967, and he and his wife of 46 years, Bobbie, raised four children -- Chris, Craig, Katie, and Kenny -- who enjoyed sharing recreation activities in New Jersey and in Vermont. Kunisch and his brothers Robert and Art essentially created what became known as Field Four at Crestwood Park near their home, and helped maintain the property. “Kunisch Field will always be a place of happiness and camaraderie -- a true field of dreams,” the proclamation said. Dr. Kamaly’s program will run from 4 to 6 p.m., and will include a question and answer session, time for informal conversation, and refreshments. Highlands Presbyterian Church, located at 270 Franklin Turnpike, is a congregation within the Presbyterian Church USA, one of the mainline Protestant denominations. Fleischauer Memorial Walk set The Allendale Woman’s Club will sponsor its Second Annual Linda Fleischauer Memorial Walk for Ovarian Cancer on Sunday, Sept. 23. Fleischauer, a beloved and dedicated member of the Allendale Woman’s Club, lost her battle with ovarian cancer in May 2010. The club is honoring her memory and promoting greater awareness of ovarian cancer by hosting this 5K walk through Allendale. On the day of the event, sign in will begin at 8 a.m. at Crestwood Lake, with opening ceremonies set for 8:45 a.m. and step off at 9 a.m. Registration is $30 and early registration is encouraged. The first 150 registrants will receive a free T-shirt. Participants may also register on the day of the event.
