Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • September 12, 2012 Ho-Ho-Kus Sewer connection from Saddle River proposed by Jennifer Crusco The Ho-Ho-Kus Council has introduced an ordinance that would allow the owners of a property on Twin Brook Road in Saddle River to connect to the Ho-Ho-Kus sewer system. The subject property is located off Mill Road and is proximate to Saddle River’s border with Ho-Ho-Kus. When the ordinance was introduced last month, Ho-HoKus Mayor Thomas Randall explained that, when property owners from other municipalities connect to the system in Ho-Ho-Kus, the individuals pay for the service. Randall said Ho-Ho-Kus does not fund the connections, and emphasized that connections from outside the borough do not constitute a large operation. Asked about the number of connections from other towns to Ho-Ho-Kus, Borough Administrator Don Cirulli told Villadom TIMES there are now 36 connections from Washington Township, eight from Waldwick, and three from Saddle River. The pending proposal would bring the total number of connections from Saddle River to four. Cirulli indicated that the initial hookup cost is approximately $2,500 to $3,000, based on variables such as engineering and legal fees. Property owners receive an annual bill for use, he added. Asked about the requests for sewer connections, the administrator pointed out that, in some cases, the owners of properties in areas that have septic systems rather than sewers may find it more convenient to connect to the HoHo-Kus system. Cirulli added that another Saddle River property owner who has a septic system had recently looked into a connection through Ho-Ho-Kus. That homeowner, whose property is on Mill Road, subsequently decided against the connection, the administrator said. According to the ordinance, the property owners at Twin Brook Road in Saddle River requested permission for a connection into the Ho-Ho-Kus sanitary sewer system, and the engineers from both municipalities found the proposal desirable and feasible. The hearing on this ordinance will be held at the Sept. 25 public council meeting. That meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., will be held at Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall, 333 Warren Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus. Public input on this proposal will be accepted, and the ordinance will then be considered for final adoption.
