Sessions will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursdays beginning Sept. 20. Okezie will discuss the culinary tools and lifestyle tips necessary to increase energy, boost immunity, reduce cravings, and start on a path to healthier living and positive lifestyle changes. Car show participants wanted The Upper Saddle River Youth Guidance Council will host an exotic car show, “Driven by Purpose,” on Sunday, Sept. 16. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Reynolds and Bogert schools, 395 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. As many as 200 pre-registered cars will be featured. Food and T-shirts will be available for purchase. Those with exotic cars who are interested in participating may register before Sept. 15 by sending contact information and the make, model, and year of the car to: Drivenbypurpo seevent@gmail.com. Trophies will be awarded. Donations from the public and net proceeds from the event will benefit the youth guidance council and D.A.R.E. The USR Youth Guidance Council sponsors the Drug Abuse Resistance Education programs and assorted other events and projects that promote safe and healthy behavior in youth and community. Special needs soccer instruction offered The Upper Saddle River Soccer Association and USR Recreation Commission are sponsoring a structured, small group Soccer Clinic for special needs children in kindergarten through grade six. The clinic is free of charge, and Upper Saddle River residency is not required. The players will warm up, run drills, and play a brief game. Built-in breaks and other accommodations will be made. Each participant will require a parent shadow for all clinics. All players will receive a T-shirt. These 45-minute clinics will be held on Saturdays at 1 p.m. at Reynolds Field starting Sept. 15. Library announces new hours The Upper Saddle River Library is now open one hour earlier. The new hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday hours, which will be from 1 to 5 p.m., will resume on Sept. 16. Book groups to meet The Novels at Night book group will meet on Sept. 12 to discuss Jonathan Tropper’s “This Is Where I Leave You.” The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the library. This group meets on the first Wednesday of the month. On Sept. 13, Coffee Talk will discuss “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood. Coffee Talk meets at 10:30 a.m. on the second Thursday of the month. Copies of the books are available at the circulation desk of the library located at 245 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River. Club changes name, welcomes new members The Saddle River Valley Residents Club, formerly known as the Saddle River Valley Newcomers Club, welcomes all residents from Saddle River and Upper Saddle River, regardless of the length of their residency, and those from neighboring towns. A Fall Kick-Off meeting will be held Sept. 13. Prospective members are invited to meet members and become acquainted with the club. Opera lecturer to address seniors The senior citizens’ club at the Church of the Presentation has planned a trip to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular on Wednesday, Nov. 28. The bus will leave the church parking lot at 8:45 a.m. for the 11 a.m. performance, and will return at approximately 2:30 p.m. Participants interested in dinner afterward may drive or car pool to Mezza Luna in Allendale. The cost for the show is $102 with dinner, or $72 without dinner. Tickets are for orchestra seating. Payment by check is due by Sept. 14, and may be made payable to “Presentation Seniors” and mailed to 271 West Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, NJ 07458 or placed in the club’s mailbox in the church office. Chop Suey Quilt class forming The Upper Saddle River Library will offer a Chop Suey Quilt Class on Thursdays, beginning Sept. 20. The class will meet for six sessions from 7 to 9 p.m. at the library at 243 Lake Street. Experienced teacher and award-winning quilter Kathleen Davies will demonstrate the simple technique using strips and tubes to cut the squares. Participants should bring fabric in a wide variety of colors. The fee is $60 for Upper Saddle River cardholders; $70 for non-USR cardholders. Class size is limited.
