Interfaith program to begin Dr. Hossein Kamaly will present “Muslims: Neighbors Not Strangers” at Highlands Presbyterian Church in Allendale on Sept. 23. Kamaly, an Iranian by birth, is an assistant professor in Asian and Middle Eastern cultures at Barnard College, and a speaker on the history of Islam. His program will be the first in a series designed to promote interfaith understanding, appreciation, and acceptance. By some estimates, the number of Muslims living in North America now totals 7 million. Islam is not a recent foreign import, but has had a presence in the United States since the country’s earliest days. Dr. Kamaly’s program will run from 4 to 6 p.m., and will include a question and answer session, time for informal conversation, and refreshments.
