He attended Saint Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, Riverside Military Academy, and Saint Peter’s College. He earned his master’s degree in education from Seton Hall. He was a teacher in the Jersey City Public School District for more than 25 years. He coached the Snyder High School basketball team. After retiring, he was a lunch monitor and crossing guard at Reynolds School in Upper Saddle River. He was a parishioner at the Presentation R.C. Church in Upper Saddle River. He is survived by his wife Anita, his children Jeanine of Upper Saddle River and Michael of Ramsey, two grandsons, and his sister Claire Danis of Monroe Township. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Nicola D’Alessandro of Saddle River died Aug. 26. He was 84. He immigrated to the United States as a young man, and was a successful, self-made entrepreneur. He is survived by his children Nick D’Alessandro, Frank D’Alessandro, and Linda Atkinson, and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Consiglia D’Alessandro. John Frank Occhiuto of Ramsey, formerly of Paramus, died Aug. 29. He was 93. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WWII. He was the proprietor for Belle Mode Dresses for over 30 years as a dress contractor in New York, New York. He was a former member of UNICO of Paramus, and he was a parishioner of Church of the Annunciation in Paramus. He is survived by his children Joel Occhiuto, and Isabel Lagana, 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Anna (nee Salerno). Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Memorial Home in Paramus. Oliver Parker Jr. of Tuxedo Park, New York died Aug. 24. He was 74. He was in the U.S. Army Reserve. Born and raised in Upper Saddle River, he attended the Little Green Schoolhouse and graduated from Ramsey High School and Dickinson College. He was a carpenter and home builder, and he built many homes in northwest Bergen County. He was a director of Mahwah Savings and Loan, and an incorporator of Independence Bank. He was a Village of Tuxedo Park Trustee and Tuxedo Club member. He is survived by his wife Kathleen (nee Collins); his sons Richard, Douglas, and David Parker; his stepchildren Jeannie Dwyer, Nancy O’Neill, and Maureen Amico; 13 grandchildren; and his sisters Suzanne, Judith, and Cornelia Parker. Sylvia S. Robb of Glen Rock died Aug. 29. She was 73. She held four master’s degrees, including a master’s in education from Yeshiva University in New York City, 1960; an M.A. from Jersey City University, 1975; an M.S. in economics from the University of Illinois, 1986; and an M.S. in psychology from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, 1990. Before retiring, she was a teacher at Hudson County Community College in Jersey City. She also taught at Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Ridgewood. She was supervisor of social studies for the Irvington School District, was supervisor of curriculum for the Red Bank School District, and worked for eight years as a senior trust officer at Wachovia Bank in Paramus. She is survived by her husband Ernest W. Robb, and her children William H. Robb, John E. Robb, and Arthur S. Robb. She is also survived by and four grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Louis Suburban Chapel in Fair Lawn. Anna Patricia Roenish, nee Soroka, of Glen Rock died Aug. 27. She was 94. Before retiring, she was a secretary at Glen Rock High School for many years. She was the first librarian in the Coleman Elementary School in Glen Rock. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Glen Rock, a member of the Fair Lawn Seniors, and a former member of the Paramus Seniors. She was a member of the Day Care Social Club at the Atrium in Allendale. She is survived by her daughter Patricia June Salmon, and her sisters Helen Joan Chencharick and Olga Judith Pitera. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from City College of New York and her master’s degree in psychology from City University of New York. She was chief psychologist and clinical director at Hackensack Medical Center from 1968 to 1976. She later opened her own private practice in Saddle Brook as a licensed psychologist. Smith, six grandchildren, her ex-husband Douglas Smith, and her brother Michael Tanaka. She was predeceased by her daughter Theresa Smith. Giuseppe Tarulli of Austintown, Ohio, formerly of Valdez, Colorado, Brooklyn, New York, Irvington, New York, and Wyckoff, died Aug. 24. He was 85. Born in Cansano, Italy, he was a steam engine driver in Italy, a coal miner at Fredrick Mine in Valdez, Colorado, a worker for L.A. Piccirillo Inc. in Newark, and a custodian in Brookside School in Allendale. He is survived by his wife Vilma Tarulli, his children Ersilia Vogt, Anna Maria Kralik, and Rocco Tarulli, 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. The Fields Committee includes representatives from each sports association and from the board of education, which owns the fields. The committee’s mission is to make recommendations on how to improve all of the borough’s fields. Minichetti added that the borough used open space funds for the improvements described above and for other projects, including the repaving of the tennis courts, the construction of Liberty Park, and the running/walking path at Lions Park. In addition, she said the borough has applied for, and received, Federal Emergency Management Agency money for damages caused by the hurricane. “Plans are in the works to replace the playground and bathrooms at Hess Park with open space funds,” she added. “We have grant monies in the amount of $140,000 for these projects from the county and must match it with our own open space funds. We are applying for additional grants for some further improvements at Lions,” she concluded, noting that the borough’s sports programs continue to grow.
