Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • October 31, 2012 Waldwick The Borough of Waldwick is undertaking a new nationwide search for a new grants administrator/assistant borough administrator. Laura Davisson, who has held the position since Aug. 6, has accepted a new job in Washington D.C. “We wish her well. She was here just a short time but did a very good job. We wish her much success in the future,” said Mayor Thomas Giordano after the council accepted her resignation last week. Search is on for grants administrator replacement “I’m very sorry she is leaving us. We knew going in she had experience on the international side, but we hoped to convince her to stay local. We appreciate the three months we’ve had her. She did a great job for us. She came in the door and hit the ground running. We are going to miss her,” said Borough Administrator Gary Kratz. Davisson said the position was an opportunity for her to get into the international development field. “It’s been a pleasure to be here, and I was honored to serve the Borough of Waldwick,” she said. A graduate of Kansas State with a master’s in public administration from Florida State University, Davisson had experience in the public and non-profit sectors. She worked for three years in the budget office of Collier County, Florida before deciding to join the Peace Corps. She was assigned to Albania and worked for two years in local government in that country. Kratz said he is in the process of reviewing the resumes received last summer when Davisson was hired as well as advertising the vacancy at the national level. He said interviews will be taking place in November and early December in hopes of getting someone on board by year’s end. Waldwick Police advise residents that a luring attempt reported last week was in fact a false alarm. “It has come to our attention that rumors are circulating that this incident was an attempt to lure the child into a vehicle. Please be assured that this was not Luring report is false; caution issued in kidnapping scam an attempted luring incident or a stranger encounter. It was merely a father speaking with his daughter at the bus stop,” said Det. Sgt. Doug Moore in a release. Moore said that at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 25, a resident reported a suspicious incident involving a student awaiting bus transportation on West Saddle River Road. The caller believed that the student was approached by an individual in a vehicle when in fact it was the student’s father who was in the vehicle. The incident was fully investigated and resolved after interviewing the involved parties. The resident who made the initial call was advised of the outcome of the investigation. Fortunately, the Borough of Waldwick has not experienced any of the attempted luring incidents that several other communities have. Officers in Waldwick and throughout New Jersey are on heightened alert and will do everything in their power to protect our children and communities, Moore said, adding that this information is not meant to deter anyone from reporting suspicious activity; rather, it is meant to clarify the facts surrounding the incident. Waldwick Police also reported last week that over a 24-hour period, two residents had reported receiving a phone call claiming that a family member was injured in a motor vehicle crash. “This is a scam that has been reported to over a dozen police agencies in Bergen County,” said Moore. He said that the caller insists that the family member is being held hostage and then demands that the resident send money via wire transfer for their release. The calls are coming from a 305 or 702 area code, and the recipient’s phone number is selected at random. Moore asked that anyone who receives a call such as this or any other suspicious calls requesting that money be sent, contact the Waldwick Police Department at (201) 652-5700 before acting on the call. “We are working with local, state and federal authorities to identify the persons responsible for this and many other telephone scams,” he said, urging residents to please pass this information along to friends and neighbors and encourage them to sign-up for the Waldwick Email Notification Program by visiting www. waldwicknj.org
