After-hours voter registration set The Waldwick Borough Clerk’s office will be open until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, which is the deadline for residents who wish to register to vote in the November general and school elections. Voter registration address changes and name changes may also be processed that evening. The clerk’s office, located at 63 Franklin Turnpike, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Republicans host benefit dinner The Waldwick Republican Campaign will host its annual fundraiser buffet to help re-elect Councilmen Chuck Farricker and Greg Bjork, and elect Anthony Celeste Jr. to the Waldwick Council. The event will be held on Friday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Waldwick Knights of Columbus Hall located at Prospect and Smith streets in Waldwick. The event will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at Waldwick High School, which is located at 155 Wyckoff Avenue. The event includes a catered dinner and opportunities to win prizes. Some of prize baskets include sports photographs, restaurant gift cards, movie tickets, comedy clubs, golf passes, bowling and skiing opportunities, and salon gift certificates. Learn the ‘Story of the Broadway Musical’ Few musical forms are as distinctively American as the Broadway musical. Conductor and lecturer Robert W. Butts will present “From Shakespeare to Sunset Boulevard: The Story of the Broadway Musical” on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Waldwick Public Library. Growing from plays with songs to full-blown musicals, the Broadway show emerged at the beginning of the 20th century with a vitality drawn from the spirit and talents of the lyricists, composers, and performers. It developed fully during a Golden Age of theatrical music led by the creative

The cupola displayed at Borough Park in Waldwick near White’s Pond was dedicated last week in memory of the late Councilman Art Barthold, with Congressman Scott Garrett and local dignitaries along with the Barthold family in attendance. The dedication was done at the request of Eagle Scout Bryan Scanlon, who had restored the structure as his Eagle project in 2003 with the help and support of Barthold, who was then a councilman. Barthold was on the town council for 13 years, served as council president, was a member and former president of the Waldwick Lions Club, coached in the baseball, football and soccer associations and worked on many graduation balls. “Whatever Art did, he did it with his heart and soul. He will always be known for his Lions Club Gold Outings and his Christmas Tree Sales,” the mayor added. at Juilliard School of Music and Nahun Arman at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Maestro Butts received his musicological training from Montclair State University and the University of Iowa. He lectures frequently throughout New Jersey on a variety of musical topics. New ambulance christening
The Waldwick Ambulance Corps, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, christened its new ambulance during the Lions Family Fun Day last week. Pictured doing the honors, at left, are Ambulance Cops President Bob Lion, American Legion Post #57 Commander Anthony Di Giacomo, and former corps president Dave Barthold, as ambulance corps member Carmella Morey and Mayor Tom Giordano look on. In photo above, Lion and Barthold recognize Morey for her contribution to the corps over the past 47 years, as corps members look on. Morey is the organization’s historian and at 86 its oldest member. The ambulance corps was started by members of American Legion Post 57 in 1952.
