Page 2 THE VILLADOM TIMES I, II, III & IV • October 10, 2012 Villadom Happenings Y announces Buddy Walk The Wyckoff Family YMCA and the Northern NJ Down Syndrome Alliance will hold the Eighth Annual Bergen Buddy Walk on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Wyckoff Family YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. The event will be held rain or shine. The day’s activities will include live music, a fire truck to explore, children’s face painting, exhibits and information from special needs organizations, games, giveaways, prizes, food, and the one-mile “Buddy Walk.” Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and the walk will begin at 11 a.m. The fee to participate is for $10 adults, and $5 for children age 12s and younger. The Buddy Walk aims to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome; raise funds locally and nationally for education, research, and advocacy programs; and enhance the position of the Down syndrome community. The walk raises support for research and education and the Billy’s Buddies and Shining Star Express programs offered by the Wyckoff Y. Don Bosco hosts Open House Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey will hold an Open House on Sunday, Oct. 14 at the school located at 492 North Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey. Eighth grade boys and their families are invited to tour the campus and meet with administrators, teachers, students, parents, alumni, and coaches. Founded in 1915, Don Bosco Prep is a private, Catholic college preparatory high school for young men in grades nine through 12. Dedicated to empowering young men, the school provides rigorous academics at the advanced placement, honors, and college prep levels, and encourages participation in extracurricular activities, clubs, and athletics. Administered by the Salesians of Saint John Bosco, a religious order of priests and brothers, the school was founded on Catholic philosophy. Historian offers ‘ride’ on 100-Year-Old Trolley Regional historian Phil Jaeger will present a slide lecture, “Along the North Jersey Rapid Transit,” at the Waldwick Public Library on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. Step back a century in time, when Bergen County was relatively undeveloped, to take a “ride” on this trolley, which served East Paterson, Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, Ridgewood, Ho-Ho-Kus, Waldwick, Allendale, Ramsey, Mahwah, and Two Afternoon Teas will be held at the John Fell House Tea Room located in the historic home at 475 Franklin Turnpike in Allendale. A Thanksgiving Tea is planned for Saturday, Nov. 17. The cost is $40 per person and attendees must RSVP by Nov. 9. The Holiday Tea is set for Tuesday, Dec. 4. The cost to attend is $45 and reservations must be made by Nov. 27. Reservations are a must as space is limited.
