Terri Shedler shifts focus, re-opens as ‘Couture Closet’
hat a difference a year makes. When Terri Shedler opened Backswing at 78 West Allendale Avenue in Allendale last year, she did not anticipate the exponential growth of the consignment portion of her apparel business. This month, Terri is changing the name of her shop to Couture Closet: Consignment & Tempting Delights. “Over the last year, the consignment has taken off. People are looking for value, and can get many Terri Shedler pieces that have never been worn – with the tags still on -- at drastically reduced prices,” Terri explains. “I rearranged the store and got more selective with the pieces I was taking in.” Couture Closet carries upscale contemporary sportswear lines and high-end designer items, such as jeans, purses, shoes, boots, coats, and furs. Terri also carries big-name clothing for juniors, and Hermes ties and European dress shirts for men. “I will continue to buy tennis clothing and sportswear seasonally for my loyal customers,” Terri says, adding that these pieces will comprise approximately 10 percent of her stock. A full 90 percent will now be devoted to consignment. Terri explains that the “Tempting Delights” she sells include completer pieces such as bracelets and hair clips that really pull together a look. At Couture Closet, it’s possible to find a cocktail dress and get professional styling at the same time! Terri is planning a Grand Re-Opening celebration for later this month. Call (201) 962-3433 for details. Couture Closet is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 to 5, and until 7 p.m. on Thursday. Personal shopping may be arranged by appointment.
