Page 2 THE VILLADOM TIMES I, II, III & IV • October 3, 2012 Villadom Happenings Massing of the bands announced On Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m., the Northern Highlands Regional High School Marching Band and Color Guard will host a competition on the high school football field. High school marching bands from Midland Park, Franklin Lakes, Park Ridge, Mahwah, Rutherford and Suffern, New York will compete. This event is a U.S. Scholastic Band Association sanctioned competition. Tickets for the Highlands Ceilidh (“Kaylee”) will be sold at the event. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. In the event of rain, the competition will be held inside Northern Highlands Regional High School, which is located at 298 Hillside Avenue in Allendale. Country Fall Fair scheduled The Friends of the Adorno Fathers will host the Annual Country Fall Fair on Sunday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The fair will be held at The Adorno Fathers retreat located at 575 Darlington Avenue in Ramsay. (Rain date: Oct. 14.) The outdoor event will feature exhibitors offering a variety of goods including jewelry, clothing, sports collectibles, sun catchers, handbags and wallets, giftware, nuts, pickles, dried fruits, toys, religious jewelry, prepackaged candy, handcrafted items, collectibles, antiques, socks, and more. Vic Lo Bue, owner of the Collector’s Shop, will offer free appraisals on stamps, currency, and first day covers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. He will also offer tips to new and seasoned collectors. Carnivale of the Dogs set TD Bank will host its Fifth Annual Carnivale of the Dogs on Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Wild Duck Pond located at 1133 East Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood. This free family and pet day will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature music, food, psychic readings, giveaways, a pet caricaturist, photographer, veterinarian, doggie beauty salon, dog related exhibits, dog trainer demonstrations, and a Blessing of the Animals by Reverend Celine Penti. All dogs must be on a leash no longer than six feet. At the event, the winner of the Fifth Annual Delaney Dog Show will be announced. The canine who raises the most funds as of midnight Oct. 6 will be crowned and will receive prizes and services. The pet’s owner will receive a 14K gold diamond crown necklace donated by Devon Fine Jewelers in Wyckoff. The event will benefit Companion Animal Advocates, Hackensack Riverkeeper recently conducted the largest corporate-sponsored river cleanup in its history. The event took place at New Overpeck County Park, where 100 volunteers from Mercedes-Benz USA joined Riverkeeper staff to clear trash and debris from the banks of Overpeck Creek – the largest Hackensack River tributary. Hackensack Riverkeeper is the independent, non-governmental advocate for the Hackensack River. Founded in 1995 by Captain Bill Sheehan to protect, preserve, and restore the Hackensack River Watershed, HRI conducts a wide range of programs to engage the public in up-close, personal experiences on the river. CAA is committed to keeping family pets from being surrendered to already crowded shelters because their owners can no longer care for them. ‘Young Artists’ benefit planned The Colleen Giblin Foundation will present a “Young Artist’s Benefit” on Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Sheraton Crossroads in Mahwah. The event, which will be held from 7 to 11 p.m., will benefit children’s neurological and cancer research at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Actress and journalist Joumana Kidd will serve as master of ceremonies, while children and young adults from the Mahwah and Ramsey area will donate their talents during a performance following dinner. The young performers will be joined by tap great Cartier Williams. Vocalists Haleigh Carabin and Erin Hope of Mahwah High School and musician Jeff Roth of Mahwah will also perform. Art students from Mahwah and Ramsey will donate pieces of their work for the auction. A special auction will include an iPad, Kindle Fire HD, signed sport memorabilia, jewelry, holi- day-themed baskets, and more. Tickets to the event are $50.
