This 4 p.m. event will be held at the church located at 318 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. All animals (leashed or contained) are welcome. On Oct. 7, the church will hold its World Communion worship at 11 a.m. An International Luncheon will follow at noon. All are invited. Breakfast to benefit CFA The Saddle River Valley Jewish Community Organization will host its Annual Membership Breakfast on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Center for Food Action in Mahwah. Those who attend the breakfast are asked to bring non-perishable food items or a donation. The SRVJCO is a non-profit organization promoting Jewish unity in the Saddle River Valley and surrounding communities through philanthropy, community outreach, and social gatherings. Activities are focused on raising funds for local and national charities. All members and prospective members are welcome to the breakfast. The event will feature a pre-show cocktail reception with open bar and buffet, a performance by Broadway stars, and a Meet the Stars reception and dessert. This year, sponsorship opportunities are available for “100 Stars.” Sponsorships are available at the gold ($500), silver ($250), and bronze ($100) levels. Sponsors’ names will appear in the evening’s program book and will be featured on a star-shaped cutout that will be displayed at the event. Social skills group forming A new young adult program for the special needs population is forming this fall at the Upper Saddle River Library. Co-sponsored by parents of special needs children from the community, the group will meet every other Monday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The next meeting is set for Oct. 15. The youngsters will socialize over games, discuss a favorite book, or simply have a place to form friendships and share experiences common to teens in grades eight through 12. Parents and caregivers are expected to attend with their child for the initial sessions. The program is open to residents of Bergen County. Church hosts ‘Acoustic Worship Service’ The Old Stone Church in Upper Saddle River has announced a new “Acoustic Worship Service” at 5 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month. The music is contemporary, folk, traditional, Gospel, and original. This season’s theme will be “Biography of Faith.” Everyone is invited to join with song leader Rebecca Abma, Pastor Bob Fretz, musicians, believers, and seekers of all ages. Upcoming services are planned for Oct. 13, Nov. 10, and Dec. 8. On Oct. 7, the church will host a concert featuring the Nashville band The Vespers. The group sends out a positive message and has a great sound. The band just self-released its second album, “The Fourth Wall.” Concert tickets are $10. Club hosts Wine and Cheese Soiree The Saddle River Valley Residents Club will host its annual Wine and Cheese Soiree on Saturday, Oct. 6. This will be the season’s first evening event for the organization, which was previously known as the Saddle River Valley Newcomers Club. Library offers programs for adults The Upper Saddle River Library offers a variety of programs for adults. The programs are free, but registration is required as seating is limited. On Oct. 4, “Step in or Step Aside: Knowing When and How to Intervene (or Not) in Your Child’s Challenges” will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Fern Weis, a certified life coach who specializes in educating and supporting parents of tweens and teens, will offer advice on being an effective and trusted adult to teens. Participants will also learn how to help children become confident and self-sufficient. Patrons are invited to “Chat with a Local Author” on Thursday, Oct. 11, when USR resident Beth Tiger discusses her new book, “Rising from the Ashes of Divorce.” The book, which offers helpful tips on how to thrive– not just survive–divorce hit the bookshelves in May and has already topped the best–seller list. On Oct. 11, Coffee Talk will discuss “Girls of Murder City” by Douglas Perry. The discussion will begin at 10:30 a.m. Coffee Talk meets on the second Thursday of the month.
