Upper Saddle River
The Pascack Historical Society recently donated the Clendenny farm wagon to the Upper Saddle River Historical Society. The Clendenny farm wagon has been on loan to the Hopper-Goetshius House Museum since 1996. The wagon is a focal point in the museum’s Dutch barn. It has now been deeded permanently to the Upper Saddle River Historical Society. The wagon belonged to Henry Clendenny of Hillsdale, who used it to take produce to the Paterson Market. At the

time, the ride to Paterson took two-anda-half to three hours. Clendenny later used the wagon to take people on hay ride socials. Wagons of this type were in common use in the early 1900s. The Carlough family transported their apples to market in the same type of wagon. What makes the Clendenny wagon extra special is that it has a label that says it was made at Packer’s Wagon Works in Saddle River, where Barnstable Court is today.
