To visit with him, each child is asked to bring a canned good or non-perishable food item to be shared with the needy. Chestnuts will be roasting on the open fire in the outkitchen while mulled cider brews in the house, which will be decorated for the season. Lizzie’s cherished ornaments will be on the tree. On exhibit will be many new items donated by descendants of the Hopper and the Goetschius families, including dolls, a child’s sled, and a fabulous antique gliding horse. In the schoolhouse decorated for the holidays of a century ago, children may listen to a reading of Clement Clarke Moore’s 1848 “’Twas the Night before Christmas,” at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 p.m. In the back room, there will be a new display of 90 recently donated Civil War soldier figures along with toys and puzzles. The Hopper-Goetschius House Museum is located on the corner of East Saddle River Road and Lake Street in Upper Saddle River. Hopper-Goetschius House Museum hosts holiday event Clement Clarke Moore in full Victorian regalia will be reading his classic “’Twas the Night before Christmas.’ The Upper Saddle River Recreation Commission will sponsor three all-day Saturday ski trips in 2013. Trips will include Windham Mountain on Jan. 12, Jimminy Peak Mountain on Jan. 19, and Mount Snow, Vermont on Jan. 26. The ski program is open to ski enthusiasts in grades six through 12 who attend school in Ho-Ho-Kus, Brookside School and Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, Cavallini and Bogert schools in Upper Saddle River, and those students who reside in the Borough of Upper Saddle River and attend other schools. Ski trips planned for local students The cost of the program for all three trips, including luxury coach transportation, lifts, lunch for all trips, and breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the Jimminy and Mount Snow trips, is $350. Students may sign up for individual trips, the cost of which is outlined in the registration form. Registration forms are available at www.USRToday.org or at borough hall, 376 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. Seating is limited and will be available on a “first come” basis.
