November 28, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 5 Waldwick Waldwick officials are looking to redesign the borough’s website to make it more user-friendly without giving up detail. “It has an awful lot of information, and many people get a lot out of it, but compared to other towns’ sites, it’s very text oriented; nothing jumps out at you,” said Borough Administrator Gary Kratz. “We want more pizzazz without sacrificing content,” he added. The site was one of the first municipal sites in the area and was maintained by former police Det. Sgt. Kevin Smith. He stayed on as a technology expert on a part time basis following his retirement from the police force in 2010. “Kevin is facing out of it, so we thought this was the time to make the changes,” Kratz explained. He said his former assistant, Laura Davisson, had gotten the ball rolling by getting samples of other sites and asking borough Borough eyes upgrading its website: waldwickpd.org officials and residents what they wanted to see in the new site. But Davisson resigned last month to take a position in Washington, DC, and Hurricane Sandy nearly paralyzed the borough for over a week earlier this month. “It’s still on the agenda, but it’s moved down the list a bit,” Kratz acknowledged. The administrator urged residents to sign up for the town’s email notification program, which can be done through the website, www. Waldwickpd.org. The program notifies residents by email of any events that are occurring in the borough. Not only was it used for Hurricane Sandy, but it has also been used in the past during a rash of burglaries to alert residents to suspect vehicles, and the time (continued on page 19) The Waldwick Neighbors-helping-Neighbors USA, Inc.
