Chamber plans dinner, elections The Allendale Chamber of Commerce will host a Dec. 11 Dinner Meeting at the Allendale Bar and Grill, 67 West Allendale Avenue, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will include elections for next year’s officers. Have 2 Have It fundraiser returns The Home and School Association of Northern Highlands Regional High School will announce the winner of its third annual Highlands Have 2 Have It fundraiser at a Dec. 7 luncheon to be held at NHRHS Cultural Arts Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Individual tickets are $10, a single book of six tickets is $50, and two ticket books are $80. Eight tech prizes including an LG 55” Class 3D 1080p flat screen TV, an Apple iPad, and a Sony game console PS3 250GB “Call of Duty” game bundle will be awarded. A light lunch will be served to Northern Highlands parents. Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the high school’s educational and co-curricular programs. Tickets must be purchased by Nov. 29. Fell House hosts Holiday Tea A HolidayTea will be held at the John Fell House Tea Room, which is located within the historic home at 475 Franklin Turnpike in Allendale on Tuesday, Dec. 4. Rotary hosts Swing & Salsa Night The Allendale/Saddle River Rotary will host a Swing & Salsa Night on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Studio L, 4 North Street, Suite 400 in Waldwick. This BYOB event will include food, soft drinks, and dancing all night. Lessons will begin at 7 p.m., and the DJ will be in full swing at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person. Woman’s Club plans Holiday Breakfast The Allendale Woman’s Club will host a Holiday Breakfast on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Brookside School Cafeteria, 100 Brookside Avenue in Allendale. This annual event is open to individuals of all ages and religious affiliations. The event features a full breakfast, crafts and activities, and a visit from Santa. Participants are asked to bring a new, unwrapped gift suitable for at-risk children ages birth through 12 years old, to be distributed by OASIS in Paterson. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 per family and will be available at the door and in advance at the Dec. 7 Allendale Holiday Walk. Fyke plans Christmas Bird Count Fyke Nature Association invites members of the community to the 61st Christmas Bird Count is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 15. This event is part of a continent-wide program organized by the Audubon Society. Fyke is planning to send approximately eight teams into its designated circle to count birds from dawn to dusk. Anyone interested in becoming a team member may contact Stiles Thomas at (201) 327-3470. All CBC participants are invited to a recap meeting, which will be held at 5:30 p.m. the day of the count. Woman’s Club offers memorial scholarship The Allendale Woman’s Club will offer a memorial scholarship in honor of Linda Fleischauer, a dynamic woman who touched the lives of the club’s members through her love of visual arts and her compassionate, selfless nature. Applicants must be Allendale residents in their senior year of high school who are planning to attend an accredited college, university, or trade/technical school with an interest in the visual arts. Those who apply must also dem-
onstrate their contributions to their community, work, or family. Students may obtain an application for the scholarship in their high school guidance office or at the club’s website: www.allendalewomansclub.org. Applications must be received by Jan. 31, 2013. Thrift Shop sets holiday hours The Clothes Line Thrift Shop at Archer United Methodist Church will offer a good selection of Christmas decorations and a wide array of holiday gifts from Nov. 29 through Dec. 21. The shop will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and selected Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. New or gently-used donations will be accepted during regular hours. The shop is located at 37 East Allendale Avenue in Allendale. Rotary Club welcomes new members The Allendale/Saddle River Rotary Club welcomes new members to its weekly meetings. Free health consultations offered The Bergen County Department of Health Services offers a free health consultation program in the Allendale for adult residents. Staffed by a public health nurse, guidance and referral services are provided for health maintenance. Monitoring of health history, and height, weight, and blood pressure checks are offered at each visit. Residents are assured of complete confidentiality of health information. If something happens, we have a way of getting a hold of everybody,” he added. Kratz judged this system better than Reverse 911, which the borough also uses. “Not everybody has land lines, or they have voice messaging over the internet, or they don’t give out their cell phone numbers. The Smartphone is more effective,” he said.
