Page 20 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • November 21, 2012 Obituaries Joseph W. Hughes of Ridgewood, formerly of Waldwick, died Nov. 14. He was 97. During World War II he served with the Red Cross, attached to the 77th Division in the Philippine and Okinawa campaigns. He was a graduate of Clifton High School and Montclair State College, where he earned his BA and MA degrees. He was an avid athlete, running track and playing football and basketball, and earning nine varsity letters and a bronze medal while in college. In 1977, he was accepted into the Montclair State College Hall of Fame. He worked with his father at Hom-Hughes, Co. in New York City, taught the sciences at the high school level, and in 1962 accepted a position at Ridgewood High School teaching physics. He remained at Ridgewood High School until his retirement. He was a past master of the Wyckoff Masonic Lodge 287, District 2, in Wyckoff, and was a Master Mason in good standing. He is survived by his nephew Alexander Starr Hughes III and Barbara Hughes, great-niece Caitlin Duckwall, and greatnephew Darrell Hughes. He was predeceased by his wife Trudi Carduck Hughes, his brother Alexander S. Hughes Jr., and his parents Alexander S. and Agnes L. Hughes. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Constance Lambran, nee Smirles, of Saddle River died Nov. 7. She was 90. Along with her husband Louis Lambran and her brother Gus Smirles, they owned and operated the Suburban Diner on Route 17 in Paramus until their retirement in 1992. She was a member and benefactor of Saint Athanasios Church in Paramus. She is survived by her sisters Helen Deligeorge and Stella Valsamedies, both Joseph W. Hughes of Brooklyn. She graduated from Greenwich High School in Greenwich, Connecticut, and from Manhattan School of Art where she subsequently taught. She was a member of the Old Stone Church and the Historical Society of Upper Saddle River. She was a founding member of the Upper Saddle River Artists Association, and was a member of the Upper Saddle River Friends of the Library. She is survived by her children Barry of Franklin Lakes, Gail Morchel of Nutley, Keith of Mahwah, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Mundt, Esq. of Waldwick, formerly of Wyckoff, died Nov. 14. He was 63. He was a graduate of Villanova University and furthered his education at the University of Akron. He practiced law in the Bergen County area for the past 35 years. He was a member of the American Bar Association, and was admitted to the New Jersey, New York, and Florida bar associations. He is survived by his fiancée Jacquelyn Terrizzi and his sons Eric, Adam, and Kevin. He is also survived by his sisters Janet Abbas and Karen Ferarra, and his step-daughter Annette Terrizzi. Michele Pascarella formerly of Upper Saddle River died Nov. 10. He was 93. He served in World War II in Italy. He was 90. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He received his MA from Middlebury College and returned to France to teach English at Lycee Henri Quatre in Paris. Before retiring in 1986, he spent 38 years with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company as an insurance investigator, claims manager, and later in New York business sales. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood, where he sang with the church choir and with the Cavaliers of Harmony, a barbershop chorus. He was the leader of a barbershop quartet, The Pierce Arrows. He is survived by his wife Elaine (nee: Torbert) Pierce, his sons Edward of Wellesley, Massachusetts, William of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, John of Ridgewood, and Robert of Newton, Massachusetts, his stepchildren Thomas Oakley of Coventry, Connecticut, Bruce Oakley of Whispering Pines, North Carolina, Carol Stanhope of West Milford, eight grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren. He graduated from Saint John’s University and studied photography at Winona School of Indiana. He received certification from NYU and the New School. He worked for IBM for 25 years, first as an accountant, then in the education department, and then as chief photographer in the communications department. He was a member of the Ridgewood Camera Club and of the Professional Photographers of America. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River. He is survived by his wife Maxine, his children Debra Koesel and Victoria Salemi, and one grandson.
