The event will feature a magic show, holiday treats, and the Menorah Lighting at borough hall, 376 West Saddle River Road, at 5:15 p.m. The menorah will be lit each subsequent night of Hanukkah. Juniors publish cookbook The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club’s “Treasured Recipes” cookbook is now available -- right in time for the holidays. Filled with 286 favorite recipes from the kitchens of area residents, club members, and local officials, this treasury of mouth-watering recipes is a must have for home cooks at every skill level. Evening of Beethoven offered Celebrate the birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven by attending a concert of his music at the historic Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 96 East Allendale Road in Saddle River, on Dec. 16. This 5 p.m. concert will feature Beethoven’s works and adaptations of his works for piano, voice, organ, and bells. Tickets are $50, and the proceeds will be donated to the church. Rotary seeks relief effort donations The Allendale Saddle River Rotary Club is participating in the relief efforts organized by Rotary District 7490 for victims of Hurricane Sandy. The organization is seeking donations of new blankets, sheets, and pillows. Also needed are cleaning supplies, paper towels, rags, spray bottles, diapers, Depends, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, first aid kits, peroxide, Bacitracin, batteries, flashlights, pocket warmers, work gloves, rubber gloves, masks, nonperishable food, baby food, and water. The club is also collecting new winter coats, hats, gloves, and scarves. Please note: The Rotary cannot accept old or used clothing or bedding. The annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Toy Drive hosted by the Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m. The event will be held at Upper Saddle River Borough Hall at 376 West Saddle River Road, and will feature the Northern Highlands Regional High School’s holiday band ensemble and the Highlands Voices chorus. Participants will enjoy cookies and hot cocoa as they await the arrival of Santa from the North Pole.
