Allendale
The Allendale Chamber of Commerce’s campaign to raise funds to beautify the central business district has been well received, and residents will soon see the results. Ed Kalpagian, who heads the chamber’s Downtown Beautification Committee, reported recently that all 10 benches being subsidized by donors had been sold and that the chamber had garnered $18,120 in voluntary contributions to make downtown Allendale more shopper-friendly at no additional cost to the taxpayers. The Chamber is now talking with Mayor Vince Barra to see if space for two more of the dedicated benches might be available. Decorative planters are also part of the project, and Kalpagian said that the group has 15 additional planters for sale at $350 each. “All are benches sold. We’re trying to add two more benches because there are people who want to purchase them,” said chamber President Nickie Lisella. “We’re

Dough-nation is a hit
Mike Ahmed, manager of the Allendale Dunkin Donuts, offered a “dough-nation” of doughnuts to people at the emergency municipal shelter at the EMS Building on Franklin Turnpike in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy with the help Allendale TD Bank Manager Joe Chinnici. Chinnici saw an order of Munchkins and doughnuts that were about to go to waste, and he and Ahmed cleared the gift to the shelter with Dunkin Donuts management. Ahmed dropped the doughnuts off to some very pleased shelter guests. The entire area was hard hit by electrical failures following the storm.
