Waldwick May 23, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 9 The Waldwick Community Alliance has been awarded a second grant from the Bergen County Historic Preservation Trust Fund for the renovation of the historic train station on Hewson Avenue. The Bergen County Board of Freeholders voted unanimously to approve the award earlier this month, one of only three historic preservation projects awarded for 2011. The WCA was the only non-profit group to receive a grant. The $195,094 award is in addition to the $293,862 grant awarded to the WCA in the 2010 round. The building has been placed on the list of the 10 Most Endangered Historic Places in New Jersey. “While the WCA is elated that $488,956 has been awarded by the county to date, no reimbursements have been made to the WCA from the county thus far,” said WCA Vice President Doug Cowie. He explained that the lawyers for Bergen County and Community Alliance gets another county grant NJ Transit are having some disagreements with the legal wording of the official grant agreement. “I have been told that progress is being made, and we should expect it to be resolved shortly,” said Cowie. “In the meantime, payments for work already completed have been made by the WCA’s continued fundraising efforts and through its available line of credit,” he added. Cowie said that the credit line is being used to insure that the project continues its forward momentum.
