Memorial Day Parade & observance set Washington Elm VFW Post 192, which serves Ho-Ho-Kus and Ridgewood, will sponsor its solemn Memorial Day Parade and observance in Ho-Ho-Kus on Monday, May 28. Veterans and military personnel will march in uniform. U.S. Memorial Flags will be given to all veterans and military personnel who attend. The parade will form up at Ardmore and Sheridan avenues at 10 a.m. and the parade will step off at 10:30 a.m., proceed south on Sheridan Avenue to the Town Green on Sycamore Avenue. A solemn observance ceremony to honor service men and women who paid the ultimate price in all military actions to date and to honor troops serving around the globe, will be conducted at the Town Green. Special music and speakers are scheduled for the ceremony. The public is invited to attend. For details contact Stanley A. Ho-Ho-Kus Hoedown announced The Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus will host its second annual Ho-Ho-Kus Hoedown on Saturday, June 9 from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Brookside Racquet & Swim Club in Allendale. Festivities will include a Southern barbecue, saloon, entertainment by a local DJ, a special auction, ping pong tournament, and the announcement of the winner of the Youth Activities Council special contest. Prizes will be awarded for the best country costumes. Tickets are $75 in advance and can be purchased at http://hhkhoedown.eventbrite.com/ or at the door on the night of the event for $80. Proceeds will benefit the Ho-Ho-Kus Angel Fund, Ho-Ho-Kus Chamber of Commerce, Ho-Ho-Kus Recreation Association, Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors, and Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus. Seniors learn about space Space historian Joe Lenox will present “One Small Step for Man, One Giant Leap for Mankind” to the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors on May 22. The Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the Hermitage Education Building at 335 Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus. Church sets Golf Outing Saint Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, located at 70 Sheridan Avenue in Ho-HoKus, will host its Second Annual Saint Bart’s Golf Outing on Monday, June 18. The event will be held at The Meadows Golf Club in Lincoln Park and will open with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. The outing includes 18 holes with a cart, a light lunch, and a dinner ceremony with door prizes. The entry fee is $115 per player. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Chamber of Commerce plans ‘A Taste of Ho-Ho-Kus’ Plans are now in progress for “A Taste of Ho-Ho-Kus,” a June 7 evening out sponsored by the Ho-Ho-Kus Chamber of Commerce. From 6 to 9:30 p.m., participants will be invited to sample fine wines and signature dishes from several restaurants, and will have the opportunity visit various downtown businesses. Tickets are $15 per person and $25 per couple when purchased in advance. On the day of the event, tickets will be $20 per person and $35 per couple. Tickets will be available on or about May 15 from participating merchants. Those who attend are encouraged to park at the Ho-Ho-Kus commuter parking lot and walk into town. Proceeds from this event will benefit the community. Knights plan Golf Outing Saint Luke’s Knights of Columbus will host its annual Golf Outing on June 11 at the Meadows Golf Course in Lincoln Park. The cost for 18 holes of golf, lunch, and eligibility for door prizes is $130. Proceeds from the event will benefit the organization’s scholarship program. For further information, contact Joe DeFlora at (201) 444-7296. ‘Treasures from Ho-Ho-Kus’ for sale The Contemporary Cub of Ho-Ho-Kus is offering its “Treasures from Ho-Ho-Kus” cookbook for $20. This edition is a revision of the 1975 “Ho-Ho-Kus Hostesses” cookbook. The updated version contains favorite recipes, some of which are over 100 years old, from residents, past and present U.S. Presidents, the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn, and the Hermitage. Library news The Worth Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-Ho-Kus has announced patrons may now download books to their Kindle from home via www.beateaudio.org. Valid library cards are required. All instructions are on the website. The library has a number of language CDs, DVDs, and flash drives for patrons who wish to learn a new language. Programs for adults are available in English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Latin, Chinese, and Italian. For children, there are programs in English, Korean, Japanese, Italian, German, Spanish, and French. The Muzzy BBC language DVDs for children are available in Spanish, ESL, German, French, Chinese, and Italian. The library also has Muzzy Interactive Language, Games and Exercises on CD, in Spanish and French.
