Civic association to meet The Allendale Civic Association will meet June 7 from 8 to 9 p.m. in the council chambers located on the second floor of the Allendale Municipal Building, 500 West Crescent Avenue. The ACA is an unaffiliated civic association with a mission to engage citizens in the open discussion of issues relevant to the Borough of Allendale and to encourage and support candidates to run for municipal office who will address these concerns. Veterans host Memorial Day Parade Allendale Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10181 will sponsor Allendale’s Memorial Day Parade and services on Monday, May 28. The parade will assemble at Tallman Place and Myrtle Avenue beginning at 9 a.m. with step off at 9:30 a.m. The parade will march through downtown Allendale and conclude at Memorial Park, where services will be conducted. Residents may pick up an American flag early in the day at Bank of America. The bank has once again donated the flags. After the services, refreshments will be served by the Allendale Fire Department volunteers at the firehouse. CERT offers ‘hurricane prep’ The Allendale Community Emergency Response Team will conduct a “Hurricane Season Prep Information Session” on May 30 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Allendale Ambulance Corps Building, 26 Arcadia Road. The public is invited to learn how to prepare in the event of a hurricane. Knowing what actions need to be taken can reduce the effects of this type of disaster. Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show seeks participants Guardian Angel Church will hold its Second Annual Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show, on Saturday, June 9 at the
church located at 320 Franklin Turnpike in Allendale. The event will run from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will feature live entertainment by B Sharp and The World Upside Down, children’s activities, food and beverages. The pre-registration fee for vehicles is $15 through May 31. From June 1 through the day of the show, the cost to register will be $20. Crafters and vendors are welcome to reserve a spot at the show for $25. Setup will be at 10:30 a.m. Crafters and vendors must provide their own tables and chairs. Electricity will not be available. Newcomers host Men’s Night Out The Allendale Newcomers Club provides a great way for new and “not so new” borough residents to meet people
and get to know Allendale. On May 31, from 7 to 10 p.m. Men’s Night Out will host a Bourbon and BBQ. This Texas barbecue and professionally hosted bourbon tasting will be held in a member’s back yard. A chef will share the secrets of barbecue cooking and Kevin Loser of Fedway will offer a sampling of bourbons from a variety of distilleries. The cost to attend is $50. She said the space is barrier-free. Byer asked if there would be room for a projector and a screen for slide presentations. Tyler said the oblong room could accommodate a podium. She added that a hanging projection screen may already be available. “It may be feasible and we should pursue it,” Randall said of the train station space. Tyler said a local business had expressed an interest in donating money to a town project, and she promised to devote her energy toward a fundraising effort to get the train station ready for meeting space. She noted that the biggest expense would be chairs, but added that one retailer offers one free chair for every five that are being purchased. As a temporary fix, Tyler suggested everyone could bring a lawn chair to the station. Randall then asked Tyler to take a look into fixing up the train station. “I’ll start rolling with it tomorrow,” Tyler responded.

The club, she wrote, has been making an annual donation to the ambulance corps, and is involved in various activities, which include the award of annual horticultural scholarships, holiday decorations at the Hermitage, town plantings on Sycamore Avenue, and the maintenance of two town gardens. Councilwoman Maryellen Lennon asked if the train station had been explored as a potential meeting location. Carol Tyler, who is captain of the Ho-Ho-Kus Ambulance Corps, said she and DPW Buildings & Grounds Superintendent Jeff Pattman had looked at the train station and estimated that 35 to 40 folding chairs could be placed in
