Waldwick May 16, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 3 Work is in progress on Phase II of the Waldwick Borough Park drainage project, with an anticipated completion date later this week. “It’s going to really dress up the area,” commented Borough Administrator Gary Kratz. “We were completely happy with Phase I, which eliminated all the puddles of water near the picnic area. With more seeding, it’s all going to be more useable, and it’s going to look very nice,” he added. Ascape Landscape and Construction was the low bidder for the second phase at a total cost of $26,291. The Blauvelt, NY contractor submitted the lowest of 10 bids, Borough Park drainage project nearly done which ranged to a high of $94,000. The work is being funded through the borough’s Open Space Trust Fund. Phase I, completed last fall at a cost of $36,050, included drainage work, replacing the top layer of soil with screened topsoil, and hydro-seeding from the comfort station parking lot to the pavilion. Phase II extended the work to the Lions playground. An underground sprinkler system is also part of the project, and water service to the pavilion has been hooked up. The grade adjacent to White’s Pond was kept unchanged to minimize the need for expensive NJ Department of Environmental Protection permits, required because the park is within 150 ft. of the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook. At last week’s council meeting, Kratz reported that some damage had been done to the new area by driving a vehicle onto the grass during a recent private party. “It can be repaired, but it shouldn’t have happened in the first place. People have to use common sense,” he stressed, noting that he is reviewing procedures to see that it doesn’t happen again. The Waldwick Council has scheduled two open house opportunities for Waldwick and Midland Park residents to check out the Hopper Avenue municipal pool prior to signing on for the season. Residents of the two communities will be able to use the facility free of charge during Memorial Day weekend and the following weekend, June 2 and 3. Badges must be presented thereafter. Resident and nonresident registrations for the 2012 season are now being accepted, with forms avail- Free open houses at pool able on the website www.waldwicknj.org under “Municipal Forms”. Councilman Don Sciolaro reported last week that 200 badges have been sold thus far, with half of that number purchased by Midland Park residents. Waldwick residents, meanwhile, have been availing themselves of Midland Park’s summer recreation program, with 24 already signed up, and seven of them choosing the extended program.
