Legion selling red poppies Members of the Waldwick American Legion Post 57 Auxiliary will be selling red poppies now through Memorial Day. The artificial poppies are distributed by the volunteers in exchange for contributions to assist disabled and hospitalized veterans. Residents may get theirs at the Legion Hall at 44 Franklin Turnpike after 5 p.m. daily or during the Memorial Day Parade on May 28. Each nine-piece poppy is made by veterans for veterans in auxiliary-sponsored Poppy Shops that supplement physical and psychological therapy needed by hospitalized and disabled veterans. The auxiliary provides the materials and the volunteers. The veteran makes the poppy and is paid a small amount for each painstakingly-made flower. For some, it is their only income.
